A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

On the aluminum cap atop the Washington Monument in Washington, DC are two words: Laus Deo. No one can see these words. In fact ... most visitors to the monument have no idea they are even there and ... for that matter ... probably could care less! But there they are .... 555 feet, 5.125 inches high ... perched atop the monument to the father of our nation ... overlooking the 69 square miles which comprise the District of Columbia ... capital of the United States of America. Laus Deo!
Two seemingly insignificant, unnoticed words ... out of sight and, one might think, out of mind ... but very meaningfully placed at the highest point over what is the most powerful city in the world. And what might those two words . comprised of just four syllables and only seven letters ... mean? Very simply ... "Praise be to God!"
Though construction of this giant obelisk began in 1848 when James Polk was President of the United States, it was not until 1888 that the monument was inaugurated and opened to the public. It took twenty-five years to finally cap the memorial with the tribute Laus Deo! Praise be to God!
From atop this magnificent granite and marble structure ... a visitor can take in the beautiful panoramic view of the city with its division into four major segments. And from that vantage point one can also easily see the original plan of the designer, Pierre Charles l'Enfant ... a perfect cross imposed upon the landscape . with the White House to the North .... the Jefferson Memorial to the South . the Capitol to the East ... and the Lincoln Memorial to the West. A cross .... you say? How interesting! And ... no doubt ... intended to carry a meaning for those who bother to notice. Praise be to God!
Within the monument itself are 898 steps and 50 landings. As one climbs the steps and pauses at the landings the memorial stones share a message. On the 12th Landing is a prayer offered by the City of Baltimore; on the 20th is a memorial presented by some Chinese Christians; on the 24th a presentation made by Sunday School children from New York and Philadelphia quoting Proverbs 10:7, Luke 18:16 and Proverbs 22:6. Praise be to God! When the cornerstone of the Washington Monument was laid on July 4th, 1848 deposited within it were many items including the Holy Bible presented by the Bible Society.
Praise be to God! Such was the discipline, the moral direction, the spiritual mood given by the founder and first President of our unique republic ... "one nation, under God." I am awed by Washington's prayer for America. Have you ever read it? Well now is your opportunity ... read on!
"Almighty God; We make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy holy protection; that Thou wilt incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government; and entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow citizens of the United States at large. And finally that Thou wilt most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that charity, humility, and pacific temper of mind which were the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without a humble imitation of whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation. Grant our supplication, we beseech Thee, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."
It is clear when one studies the history of our great nations that Washington's America was one of the few countries in all the world established under the guidance, direction and banner of Almighty God, to whom was given all praise, honor and worship by the great men who formed and fashioned her pivotal foundations. And when one stops to observe the inscriptions found in public places all over our nation's capitol... one will easily find the signature of God.
We are a nation under God! Laus Deo!!! Praise be to God!!! "Unless the Lord builds the house it's builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain." (Psalm 127:1)

See You Next Time?

Read: 1 Chronicles 16:23-36

Sing to the Lord, all the earth; proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day. —1 Chronicles 16:23

Bible In One Year: 1 Chronicles 7-9; John 6:22-44

It was a Sunday afternoon several years ago. The whole family was gathered around the table for dinner. Our 4-year-old son Stevie led off our pre-meal prayer: "Dear heavenly Father, thank You for this nice day. Thank You that we could go to church and Sunday school today." Then, to our surprise, he said, "And we'll see You again next week."

What Stevie said in his prayer is how we often view the Christian life, I'm afraid. We easily fall into a see-you-next-time attitude about God. We forget about Him as we fulfill our daily responsibilities. We go for days at a time trying to pay the bills, keep the boss happy, and give attention to each family member. But we neglect to give God the time He deserves.

First Chronicles 16 gives us some facts about God's power and majesty that we can think and talk about "from day to day" (v.23). We can "declare His glory" (v.24) and recognize His hand of creation in the heavens (v.26). We can talk of His honor and majesty, the strength He possesses, and the gladness He gives us (v.27).

Each day brings new reasons to pray to God, to praise His name, and to proclaim His love. Let's make our worship of Him something we do "from day to day." —Dave Branon

Worship, praise, and adoration
Render now to Jesus' name;
Freely give your heart's devotion,
Constantly His love proclaim. —Anon.

No day is complete without worship.

Beautiful, beautiful beautiful! Thank you for this wondrous presentation ((((((Aqua)))))).

Many, many years ago (I won't say how many, but here's a hint: JFK was president!) I visited the nation's capital with my parents and climbed the monument, step by step, with my Dad. You have brought back some very nice memories. I remember having my picture taken in front of the statue of Iwo Jima and a tour of the White House, hoping to catch a glimpse of our president.

(((((HUGS))))))) to *ALL* and to my speshul fuzzy brothah [[[[[{{{{{(((((Louie_Wolfie_Man)))))}}}}}]]]]] and to the resident *curmudgeon* (((((((skinny dood)))))))))).

Ciao! :-)

Thanks for the compliment, I enjoyed putting this one together. Was pretty easy to do this time. :)

You should take your family back there one day and visit the the monument. It's very impressive.

What a Beautiful Prayer!
If only the anti religous zealots weren't around, what a wonderful Country we could be again.

I have a vague memory of visiting the monument with my family when I was a teen-ager. Seemed like my mom and I made it halfway up the monument on the stairs and my dad and brother went on up to the top. Remember my brother bragging about the view up there.

Drove by it years later with Mr. A.

We are supposed to be going to Virginia this summer.
The Baptist Church we attended is having their 250th Birthday party.
When we go I want to spend a couple days in D.C.
My sis in law live there so we have a place to stay.
I also want to see the Vietnam, Korean war, WW11 Memorials.
Plus everything else.

At one time all our politicans did think like Washington,
they all Loved and adored this country, it was built on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

It can be there again!
