Does anyone remember the story from summer of last year? The pizza deliveryman who robbed a bank and subsequently was blown up by a bomb attached around his neck? Whatever happened with that? I was just a lurker then, but I remember there was significant Freeper interest. There was a lot of speculation and the story was fascinating. But I can find no updates. Did they determine that he was telling the truth or did he place the bomb on himself? Did the FBI get anywhere in their investigation? The story dominated the news for a few days, but then it completely disappeared. Anyone know anything?
He's dead Jim.
He was an aquaintance of Nick Berg
I seem to recall that they released a bit more info a couple of months back, hoping to generate new leads. I'm afraid the FBI has hit a dead end on this story, and that's pretty scary. Somebody who is capable of pulling this sort of thing off is still out there, and feeling very confident in his abilities.

It bombed.
He should've stuck with Erie hotdogs -- the best!! Next time anyone goes up there, why don't you bring us a few pounds?
According to reports in the Erie-Times News, one of the men graduated from the Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy in 2001 and worked with Brian Wells, a pizza deliveryman who was wearing a bomb collar that exploded and killed him soon after he robbed a bank. The man also lived with Wells' friend and co-worker, Robert Pinetti, who died of a drug overdose three days after Wells died, the Erie Times-News reported, citing several unidentified sources.
The other man graduated in 2001 from Central High School in Erie, the newspaper said, also citing anonymous sources and a school official. It's not clear whether the 2001 graduates know each other.
"There was a recent inquiry involving the Brian Wells case," Erie schools Superintendent James Barker said. Central High School Principal Gerry Mifsud confirmed that the FBI asked questions about the Wells case on April 7.
"He asked about a former vo-tech student that they felt had some skills that were related to the incident," Mifsud said.
Wells, 46, robbed a bank Aug. 28 wearing a crudely made metal collar that enabled a pipe bomb to be attached to his neck. He died while state police were waiting for a bomb squad to arrive to defuse the device.
Before he died, Wells claimed he was forced to rob the bank by a man who had locked the bomb to his neck. Police later discovered a handwritten letter spelling out detailed instructions Wells was to follow during and after the robbery.
Special Agent Bob Rudge, who heads FBI office in Erie, wouldn't comment about specifics Tuesday.
"We are making progress every single day," Rudge told the newspaper. "It's a case we're not going to let go of. We can't."
The Erie County Coroner's office has said Pinetti's death was an accidental overdose and not related to Wells' death.
A $50,000 reward is being offered for information that helps solve the crime.
the customer got $3 off his pizza
Well that seems to suggest that Wells might have known his killers, if these two people really had anything to do with it. And if he knew them, that would suggest his own complicity in the robbery.
I'm glad this "cold case" is still being actively investigated.
I have read this thread 3 times looking for anything that migt have inspired your post.
Years of training in literary and verbal analysis come to nought.
It is astounding to see such a rude post to another such as yours. Perhaps you are having a bad day. Perhaps you thought that such comments to another person was what you felt they deserved. Perhaps you are just simply lacking in human compassion or fellowship.
What ever the reason may be, please reflect on why you felt the need to make a post like you did. It may be good for your soul.
WTF?
"xxx xxxxxx xxxx x xxxxxxxx xxx xxxxxx xxxxxx xxxx xxxxxxxxxx xxxxxx xxxx xx xxxxxxxx xx x xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxx xxxxxx."
Perhaps this is what you meant to say; or just should have.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
Two month ago here in Philly his brother was on the Micheal Smerconish show in the AM. He at the time trying to clear his brother's name. Because of the police were unable to follow up on his story, the local police and the coroner listed his death as a suicide. But his brother reamins hopeful as the evidence trail is quite sparce. Thats the last I've heard.
BTW, we don't call them "mentally retarded", anymore.
"We" don't call them mentally retarded anymore? I don't know who "we" is and I don't really care. You can use any euphemism that you choose, it doesn't take away from the accuracy of my comment.
Your comments are totally uncalled for. I suppose you would talk to your children like that while helping them with their homework.
