Kindu Jeancy, an asylum seeker from the Congo, was arrested Friday after a 27-year-old Buffalo woman filed a complaint with the Cheektowaga Police Department around 4 p.m. Jeancy was charged with “sexual abuse in the first degree and unlawful imprisonment” following an investigation by the police department. The United States Coast Guard tweeted on Sunday that it was conducting a 'mass rescue' after 18 snowmobilers were trapped on a slab of ice that broke off a heavily frozen Lake Erie. A sheet of floating ice broke away while the individuals were snowmobiling, according to the Coast Guard. ERIE — About 150 unaccompanied children found at the southern border of the U.S. have arrived in northwestern Pennsylvania and will be housed at a dormitory at the Pennsylvania International Academy. The children landed Tuesday night at Erie International Airport and were screened by a physician, dentist and nurse, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said. The Pennsylvania International Academy is designated as an emergency intake site by the department. (Reuters) - Snow piled up in Erie, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday after two days of record-breaking snowfall that had already surpassed 5 feet (1.5 meters), breaking city and state records, according to the National Weather Service. Though residents are used to winter snow squalls blowing in from adjacent Lake Erie, which straddles the border with Canada, the Christmas storm is already one for the ages. "This is an incredible amount of snow that we're trying to move," the Erie Police Department said in statement after the city declared a "snow emergency" on Tuesday, imploring people to stay off the streets.
