What Atrocities? What Torture?
Sadly, this war is fast becoming a "politically-correct" war. Thanks to the anti-American efforts of CBS, they have helped to fuel the fires of anti-Americanism around the globe. So now we are having to apologize for a few soldiers who chose to ham it up and take pictures of themselves with Iraqi prisoners. I've seen nothing which leads me to believe these Iraqis were subjected to anything worse than being forced to perform sophomoric hazing rituals a la the Omega fraternity in the movie "Animal House".
In fact, most American POW accounts of their treatment at the hands of not only the Iraqis, but also certain Asian peoples, leads me to believe most of our brave POWs would have considered themselves lucky to have been treated to a little bit of hazing as opposed to the starvation and beatings they endured. Just ask Senator John McCain and the other Vietnam War POWs or Navy aviator Jeffry Zaun how their captors treated them.
Folks, we are at war and war is hell. Bad things happen in war and people die. Let's keep things in perspective; we are in Iraq and Afghanistan because radical Islam has declared war on Western society. We must stay the course if we are going to prevail. Also, bad things happen in prisons, that's why it's a good idea to stay out of them.
We are at war with a people who have been brutalized for years by a sadistic killer. For our own media and the Arab press to use these pictures to draw comparisons between our forces and Saddam Hussein is irresponsible and blatantly false. We've seen just recently how the people of Iraq treat Americans by dragging, burning, and hanging their bodies AFTER they were murdered in cold blood.
These soldiers involved in this "scandal" will be dealt with by the military. It's a sad testimony to see Brig. General Janis Karpinski, who was in charge of these prisons, attempt to pass the buck rather than take some responsibility for those under her command. What is truly unfortunate is that those responsible for real atrocities like those committed in Fallujah continue to roam free and most likely will never face justice.
Let's not allow the media to make more of this than there really is. We already know many in the Arab world hate us. If we allow this to turn into a "PC" war, they will no longer fear us. They need to learn that bad things will happen to them if they mess with the United States. War is hell.
Contact your elected officials and the media to let them know you stand by our troops and the War on Terror.

Let's not allow the media to make more of this than there really is. And let's tell the administration to stop enabling the media. An obligatory statement issuing condemnation would have been sufficient, making the talk show rounds and news channels 24/7 only gives it more status.

I suppose there are folks who are not concerned that the directions to the detainees included making sure their penises were properly positioned in or near the anus of the other guy.
All you have to do is read the official Army report on the matter to find that one out.
Now, the real issue ~ has "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" finally attracted homosexual S&M practitioners to the Military Police?
That's the issue to be investigated.

Excuse me, the major media is correctly reporting the problem here is humiliation.
HUMILIATION, are you kidding me. The freakin' Islamists blow up civilians, women, children, old men, they don't care.
They cut four of our civilians to pieces and hung what was left off of a bridge.
They blew up a school bus full of Iraqii children.
They raped PCF Lynch.
They cut Daniel Pearl's head off.
They blew up 3,000 in New York, another 289 in D. C. and a bunch in Pennsylvania.
etc., etc., etc. . .
AND THE PRESS IS ALL UPSET BECAUSE SOMEBODY 'HUMILIATED' A POW.
Please, what is wrong with this picture?

Here is something that really turns my stomach.
Driving home last night, I heard the top of the hour CBS news report. Of course, they started with the prisoner abuse story. The very next story was about Thomas Hamill, the contractor who escaped from his Iraqi captors. The focus of the CBS story was how the Iraqis had taken Hamill to the hospital, cleaned his wounds, operated and provided antibiotics. That wasn't part of their story. It was all of their story.
The implication was very clear. US soldiers abuse Iraqi prisoners. Iraqis lovingly care for US prisoners.
I would remind CBS that Tokyo Rose went to prison after WWII.

The real scandal is the gross misuse of the word "torture." There's another old word with once-frightening connotations that can now be removed from the lexicon, because it no longer carries any meaning.

"The New Yorker magazine reported Saturday that it had obtained a 53-page U.S. military report that concluded that Iraqi prisoners had been subjected to "sadistic, blatant and wanton criminal abuses" at the prison, which before last year's U.S.-led invasion had been Saddam Hussein's primary killing ground for political enemies. The author of the report, identified by the New Yorker as Army Maj. Gen. Antonio M. Taguba, said it appeared that some of the inmates had been beaten and sodomized, perhaps with a broomstick or a chemical light."

It's disgusting to read all the Freeper comments on this subject which accept what was done, justify it as a part of war, deny it, or otherwise make light of it. These actions, if substantiated, were reprehensible and must be stopped immediately, and the perpetrators severly punished. There is a significant lack of training and supervision that must be corrected quickly if the allegations in the General's report are accurate. This is not college hazing; this is criminal behavior.

How hard is it to know that you're not supposed to jam a broomstick or a chemlight up someone's fundament?

How hard is it to know that you're not supposed to jam a broomstick or a chemlight up someone's fundament?Well, for example, some of them allegedly stated that they were unaware of the Geneva Convention articles on the treatment of prisoners. For example, there appeared to be significant confusion over responsibilities of the military police guards and those of the organizations conducting interrogation. Even the lady general in charge of the jail seemed confused over responsibilities.
Yes, lack of training plays a part, especially when dealing with reservists.

You as well as the press should be concerned with overt sado-masochistic homosexual behavior on the part of Military Police ~ whether in Iraq or here!
Is there some reason you find it useful to avoid that aspect of this case?

And, years later, one of the many young Japanese women who became known as "Tokyo Rose", was pardoned by President Gerald Ford on January 19, 1977.
Your point is better taken with a look at Lord Haw Haw. He peddled Nazi propaganda. The big deal with Rose Aquino was that she had a pleasant voice and spoke English exceedingly well.

Let's take a step back ~ why are we inducting people into the military who think it's a good idea to sodomize prisoners?
Isn't this a case of "Don't ask, don't tell" proving itself to be both a mistaken and an EVIL policy?
