Republicans yesterday piled on Democrat John Kerry after the revelation that his wife drives a pricey German Audi import while he's preaching the importance of buying American cars to save U.S. jobs.

"I don't care what car someone drives, but Kerry is a total hypocrite," said Rep. Peter King (R-L.I.), who drives a Mercury.

KERRY'S PERSONAL MOTORCADE--FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC (he still expects to win Michigan)

NY Post columnist Deborah Orin reported Saturday, "KERRY GETS AUDI-TED," that Kerry reluctantly admitted on Earth Day that his family owns a gas-guzzling Chevrolet Suburban SUV but blamed it on his wife, saying: "The family has it. I don't have it."

This came one day after John Kerry stressed the importance of buying American cars to keep American jobs, when records show that his wife owns a pricey imported German Audi.

The green 2001 Audi Quattro is registered to Teresa Heinz Kerry at their townhouse in Boston's posh Beacon Hill, according to the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles. Her registration is good through February 2005, Orin wrote.

On Earth Day, Kerry asserted that it's important for his family to buy American and vowed to protect American autoworkers' jobs. Next week, he's launching a "jobs tour" that will take him through the industrial heartland, home to many autoworkers, the Post reported.

It was also reported that Kerry left out the pricey Audi import two months ago when he detailed the cars that his family owns to the Michigan paper, Detroit News.

Talking to the Detroit paper, Kerry said: "We have some SUVs. We have a Jeep. We have a couple of Chrysler minivans. We have a PT Cruiser up in Boston. I have an old Dodge 600 that I keep in the Senate . . . We also have a Chevy, a big Suburban," the Post reported.

Kerry's hometown paper, Saturday's Boston Herald editorial put it this way. At last count, there were eight "family" cars and SUVs, including:

the 1995 Suburban (15 mpg highway, 12 mpg city), a 1993 Land Rover Defender (12 mpg highway, 10 mpg city), a 1989 Jeep Cherokee (20 mpg highway, 16 mpg city), a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee (20 mpg highway, 15 mpg city), a 2001 Audi Allroad (21 mpg highway, 15 mpg city), a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser (25 mpg highway, 20 mpg city), a 1985 Dodge 600 Convertible (26 mpg highway, 23 mpg city), and a 2002 Chrysler 300M (26 mpg highway, 18 mpg city).

Kerry, however, only owns up to the latter two.

DCX (Daimler Chrysler Corp) is owned by Daimler Benz (Mercedes) which also owns Freightliner (mfg of big trucks and bus/rv chassis).

Expert observers say Kerry seems to own a disproportionate mumber of DCX products of which Jeep is also part.

Not only is the foreign-made Audi Quattro made in Wolfsburg, Germany, it's the factory of the Hitler era ---Volkeswagon.

Kerry's Land Rover is made in the UK.

Teresa's private jet---Gulfstream GV--- that is made available to John Kerry, is a $50 million dollar aircraft that can carry and burn over 3 tons of fuel and gets maybe 5 centimeters per gallon.

There's also a 45 foot custom Hinkley yacht; 1 Harley (until recently an Italian made Ducati); and 5-6 large estates throughout the country that must be energy effecient (snicker).

Buying an imported car can be politically disastrous for a presidential candidate in swing industrial states like Michigan - where buying American is a big deal - particularly when candidates like Kerry are vowing to protect American jobs.

Kerry in March: I voted for the $87 Billion before voting against it.

Kerry in April: I don't own any SUV's, my family does.

I can't wait until next month!!!!!!!!!!

He just can't help but slip and slide with his answers.

Do you think some Democrats are having buyers' remorse over his nomination?

I still want to know how many of those noise and air polluting snow mobiles his family owns...wonder if they own golf carts too? They are a form of transportation on some estates.

I can't help but think so. Remember just when Dean was imploding? The polls showed Kerry was electable and, as the most liberal of the remainder of the credentialed pack, all the most liberal hog farmers in Iowa decided to try it . . . and the rest of the Democrats everywhere took note and followed like lemmings.

I can't help but wonder if Dean was a stalking horse for Kerry. Wasn't most of his money and early lead from internet donations from the likes of Kool-Aid drinking websites such as DU and MoveOn.Org? I smell Soros on both the rise and timely fall of Howard Deaan.

Amateur observers say Kerry seems to say a disproportionate number of stupid things.

Anybody see the commercial starring Franken where he tells his "audience" that Republicans go to Yahoo to buy boats, yachts, etc. Hasn't he heard about Kerry's yacht? It's also got Ben Stein dissing Democraps.

Just an oversight, I am sure.

I can't help but wonder if Dean was a stalking horse for Kerry.

I remember Rush talking a few months ago about the problem that the Democrats are having and will have in the future with Presidential races.

Since 1960, every President elected has been a governor first. Given the lack of Democrat governors, especially in large states like Texas, California, and New York, their "bullpen" is lacking.

Dean had the gubenatorial credentials, but not the temperment to reshape himself as a moderate like Carter and Clinton. (it appears Kerry has the same problem)

Additionally, with the exception of 1976 and the influence of Watergate, Democrats cannot win the White House when national security was a top-5 issue. In 2004, national security is the #1 issue.

Lastly, in 1996 we nominated Bob Dole, a long-time Senator with a war record because we wanted anybody but Clinton. We gave no reason to vote for Dole (he ran a lousy campaign) and lost.

It appears that the shoe is on the other foot now. It is the Democrats who nominated a candidate that their own grassroots does not really like due to their anybody but Bush mentality.

Of course, none of this means we do not need to fight hard to re-elect Bush. It just means that history, work-experience and tradition are on our side.
