The Heinz Company is trying to distance itself from the Kerryite Bush-bashers, but several newspaper articles and pictures from October 2003 show that there is a well-substantiated connection.
That connection is Kofi Annan.
In summary

But I don't like the way they scored political points against Bush.
They knew, ahead of time, that Kofi would criticize Bush's administration.
"WELCOME! We are a research group based in Toronto, Canada at the University of Toronto, The Hospital for Sick Children. We are dedicated to improving the health of children worldwide through our research on iron deficiency and other micronutrient deficiencies in children. Micronutrient deficiencies, especially deficiencies of iron, vitamin A and iodine have been identified by the World Health Organization and UNICEF as a health priority. To help alleviate this serious public health problem, we have developed micronutrient supplement called Supplefer Sprinkles , also known as "Iron Sprinkles". Supplefer Sprinkles/ Iron Sprinkles is a simple, inexpensive and effective intervention to prevent and treat iron and other micronutrient deficiencies in infants and children."
Too bad for Kofi, the UN's corrupt "Oil for Food" program is dead.
Annan receives award from Heinz fund [Heinz product, Supplefer, distributed by UN, Annan gets awars] "So far, several thousand children have benefited in the initial trials," Foster said. "More than 140,000 children will be given the supplements in projects that are now proposed and ready to start worldwide." Most of this work will be done through the U.N. system.
The Heinz Foundation provided Zlotkin with a $750,000 grant over three years in support of his work. Although the Sprinkles are not a commercial product, many Heinz companies are providing technical and scientific support. One of [Heinz's] factories in Italy makes Sprinkles.
Notice, how you have to go to several websites to learn that Heinz funded the development of Supplefer and manufactures Supplefer, too.
It is a "non-comercial" product, but that doesn't mean Heinz won't make money off of it (after they finish testing it on third world children).
I'll bet a lot of deserving companies wish Kofi's UN would test their product for them.
To find sinister motives in a company making nutrition for starving children is really wacko.

I hope you're not saying that the corruption in the UN "Food for Oil" Program shouldn't be investigated, because it was a wonderful help for the Iraqi children.
* I think it's wonderful that they are testing/delivering their Supplefer to Third World Children, especially the children of Kofi's home country.
A few very stinky facts bother me, though.
It's quite a "coincidence" that Kofi Annan was greeted* at the Pittsburgh Airport by the Chairman/CEO of the Heinz Corporation toodled across town to get a humanitarian award from the Heinz Fund, then toodled across town to deliver a Heinz Lecture that attacked Bush.
It will help me remember how to avoid excessive salt in my diet.
Did I say Kerry had control of the Heinz Corporation?
I merely told the story of the Heinz Corporation giving an award to someone who distributed their product for them, big time.
It would have been more honest to give Kofi the Salesman of the Year Award.
I'm sure that a lot of deserving companies would love to have Kofi head up their marketing and distribution departments.
Should read "Kofi Annan was greeted* at the Pittsburgh Airport by the Chairman/CEO of the Heinz Foundation."
Confusion here...the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette/AP photo identifies Mrs. Johnson as the wife of the Heinz Chairman

Yes, I think it should be investigated. Do you have any evidence that this Heinz supplement was somehow used for some corrupt purpose, or do you just like to smear companies for no good reason?

It's not a coincidence at all. Yes, it's so much corporate self-congratulation, but all kinds of companies do that. do you have evidence that Heinz and Anan were doing somethign illegal? Since Heinz does not profit from the supplement, under normal circumstances this would be considered a humanitarian gesture.
Just because John Kerry married into the Heinz family you see black helicopters? Get a grip.
Most people, who are admittedly ignorant, have a measure of respect for the UN. Having its head give a talk is a special occasion. IF the president was coming to speak at your company, would you tell him what he can and can not talk about?
Lastly, just because the UN head opposed Bush's war doesn't make this a campaign contribution to Kerry. Kerry wasn't even on the radar in October. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
