Woman traces obscene caller
Friday, March 26, 2004
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- A woman fed up with obscene phone calls tracked down the offender and cornered him as he made yet another call from a public phone booth, police said.
The 26-year-old Sharpsville woman received the calls regularly on Friday and Saturday between midnight and 3 a.m., police said.
The woman, whose identity was not released, had caller ID and asked the phone company to trace the number, police said.
The calls were traced to a phone booth in Hermitage, about two miles away, police said.
The phone company, at her request, forwarded calls on Friday to her cell phone.
The woman and three of her cousins staked out the phone booth and around 1:30 a.m., a former neighbor arrived and made a call, police said. The woman's cell phone rang, police said.
Family members prevented the man from leaving until police arrived.
Fred Marini, 43, of Hermitage, was charged Wednesday with harassment and stalking.
Marini has an unlisted phone number and could not be reached for comment yesterday.

Cool. I'm glad they caught the creep, but I wonder why she had to do it herself.

I was wondering that too. One thing she does have bigger cajones than the caller.

Ever since the Dems decided that if you don't like a law - just ignore it.....the police have gone into hibernation on things like this.

Force him to strip naked, paint his privates red, tar and feather the rest of him and parade him down the city's Main Street at noonday.

she had to do it herself because she isnt 'elite' enough...had anyone really 'important' complained the mayor would have ordered the chief to do something and he would have had cops do this...
Otherwise its too expensive in terms of man hours to waste on the peon tax payer with 'no clout'

Har har! Good for her! I would love to have seen the look on his face as her family members surrounded the phone booth with whatever implements they used to detain him. Probably made him want to dial 911.

Because the cops have better things to do, such as making sure the local doughnut shops are safe and revenue enhancement (harassing drivers who are going 49 in a 45).

The police are also too busy attending anti-2nd amendment rallies, and "educating" the public on the "evils" of handguns.

I'm surprised the phone company cooperated with her. We had annoying calls at work and worked through the phone company. They traced the calls but refused to give us any info whatsoever. Well, good on her!

That one's easy. Our family on the receiving end of harrassing and threatening calls a couple of years ago, and nothing was ever done. These kinds of calls are not high on the police "to do" list.

Negative, there is no money in it, Police pursue would rather pursue those that break the nanny laws because (1) more people break nanny laws (ie seatbelts), (2) Fines are normally just PAID, no court, no arrest, just a piece of paper and next! , (3) These hardened nanny law breakers are for the most part non-violent (easy pickings), (4) Its also a very good opportunity to go fishing for more fines (did you know that your license plate light was out, the frame obstructs the bottom of the numbers, your window tint may be too dark, what do you use this pocket knife for?) every stop is a potential gold mine.
That is just one of my pet peeves, the other is self protection and these idiots that think 911 will save their dumba$$
