FreeRepublic Federalist League Baseball ...is up and running in its 2nd year!   And we're looking for new team managers!

Congratulations to mdw278 and the Keystone Power, for being FRFLB 2003 Champion, winning the regular season and the playoffs, both!  

 Keystone Power Wins The Big Juan!  Who will win, this year? 

The action is head-to-head, with lineups set weekly. Each week, a team is matched up with one other, and whichever is better in 20 categories gets a point for each category. The categories are set for balance and realism. It's a proven system and set up for heap big fun perennialy....

If you're interested, just join!:  Go to http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/b1, click the Sign Up Now! button and choose to Join a Private League. Then, when prompted, enter the following information...  League ID#:  272558  -  Password:  mooseandsquirrel

Yahoo will send you a confirmation with further details once you have completed the registration process. (You need a Yahoo account, which is pretty painless.)  If you want to know more, just post me here, or FReepmail me.

There will be a live draft, however if you're not free at that time, you can set draft rankings and Yahoo does a good job of selecting players for you, based upon it.  As of this post, we need 10 more teams, to get to 16. If you think you'll be in it for the long haul, you'll find an excellent league!  And if you join, you will be agreeing to abide by our TWO BIG RULES:

DEPORTMENT:  A little friendly smack is one thing, but no ad hominem attacks, no vulgar language -- and if you decide to quit (which the rest of us really won't like) no dumping players!

TEAM NAMES:  Like real teams, include a Geographical element (of any kind) and a Nickname. In unspun's case "Algernon" would be the location, and "Sidneys" would be the team. Please begin each of your team names with Capital Letters, just as with any proper nouns.

The MLB season starts this month!  What are you waiting for?  Get those draft rankings set up and join the Live Draft if you can!

I don't know what happened, but I was sure that I'd set scoring to begin right away.

I just saw that it was set for beginning on April 12, and I changed it back to the only other setting (to begin with week one). We'll have to monitor it and see how it behaves -- no promises, it's beyond my control.

This is a busy Summer and I haven't been very chatty in FRFLB-land.

I have heard somethign very sad but utterly glorious, from cherry_bomb88. Greg Summers, sultan88, has passed away in the last day or so, I believe of kidney failure. He is survived by his wife and two adult children, one of which is in FR.

The bell tolls for us, Greg.

Greg had a strong life's testimony of his acceptance of Christ, our saving, personal, so loving knowledge of God. That is of surpassing comfort to his family and to us. I see that Greg was hanging back with the #1 waiver position in the FRFLB, maybe hanging back to grasp a top pick -- a gifted, promising newcomer up from the minors, full of hope. Instead, that's what he has become, in Paradise.

Please pray for Greg's loved ones. We miss him too.
