Spain did not surrender to the socialists - they surrendered to the terrorists.

I said they surrendered to the terrorists BY voting in the socialists. And now the proof is in the announcement that the Spanish troops in Iraq will be withdrawn.

Nock up one win for the terrorists.

I knew in my heart that Spain was going to cave when I saw that a large percentage of the Spaniards gathering in the streets to mourn had "PAZ" signs. How many people in the US (or even liberel NYC) made a plea for peace as their first reaction to 9/11? One percent? Two? I saw a documentary featuring footage filmmakers who lived in lower Manhattan shot in the week of 9/11-9/18. In three hours of footage, there were two expressions of "give peace a chance" and many, many expressions that we were not going to give up, no matter what, and almost as many fervent expressions of the hope that our armed forces would land on these guys like a ton of bricks. Spain's reaction to less shock, fewer deaths and less sophistication on the part of the terrorists was to run to the streets and sue for peace.

I'm not ashamed to say I nearly broke down and wept when I heard the news of the Socialist victory. Spain will pay for their weakness and short-sightedness; the alligator will not eat them last. They have sent the message to Al-Qaida: "If you want us to do something, kill a few of us. We will comply immediately, and blame your murderous acts on those of us who tried to end your evil." Not even a mind as blinded to truth as bin Laden's could fail to see the easy advantage to be gained here.

Too late. It turns out that Red was an appropriate color choice for the Spanish end of the ribbon, although Yellow might have been even better.

This recent vote in Spain may not truly reflect the cowardice that it APPEARS to.
Some say that the ruling Popular Party really BUNGLED the immediate aftermath of the terrorist attack, by appearing to be LYING about their intelligence of culpability, Al Quada vs the ETA - in an attempt to gain short-term political advantage.
The PP loss may therefore be more the result of THIER incompetance than a loss of will by the general population.

See for instance, THIS recent display of Spanish resolve, from Yahoo! News PHOTOS:

I wouldn't have chosen the word cowardice in relation to the vote in Spain. Ignorant, foolish, lacking understanding and foresight perhaps.

As something like 77% of the voting population turned out, I'm afraid signs at a soccer match is just anecdotal and not representative of the plurality (of voters at least).

I want to make it clear that I don't hate the Spanish people, I'm just disappointed in them right now.

I don't think the "Spanish just gave up". Aznar has fought a general consensus against the war from the beginning.

To me this was an easy win for the terrorists .. more than 1/2 of the population didn't want Spain involved in the war and Aznar got involved anyway.

Remember, after 9/11 - America did not surrender. The terrorists may have a short memory, but if they dare attack us again - the democrat appeasers are toast!!

I wouldn't be so sure. Kerry would easily spin it as "See? Even after Bush shredded the Constitution, we're still not safe, blah, blah, blah..." Before 9-11, I woulda thought sure that an attack on that scale woudl have brought down a declaration of war and long-term national unity. Silly me.

The disturbing thing is that since Al Queda saw how easy it was to make a nation curl up and cry like a baby with Spain, they'll be encouraged to do it *again.* And seeing the effect of doing it just before an election... I'd look at October and November as being a bit spooky this year...

Sorry if I offended, certainly didn't intend to.

Knock up one win for the terrorists.

It's a BIG win too!

"if they hit us again, before the election, the American public will surrender with a vote for Kerry, like Spain did with a vote for the socialists"
Absolutely, Americans are very different people from Europeans, and Bush would react mush stronger than the PP did in spain.

Great job! It's too bad the Spanish people had to cower before the terrorist bullies. It puts all of us further at risk (sigh).

We should never forget: 9-11, and the cowardice of those who prefer servitude to liberty.

First of all Linda, they were BOTH good, as usual!!

Secondly, remember our 8 horrible years of the slime and his ever so gracious and lovely bride? (eck)...not ALL of Spain surrendered, as not ALL of America gave in to those two evil people.

It's HORRIBLE what happened in Spain, don't read me wrong...I just feel badly for those who DIDN'T vote for evil to win.

That's all...
