[history]
So the entire world has now got a taste of what passes for entertainment on MTV every day. That was our reaction to the furor over the MTV-produced Super Bowl halftime show, which network President Judy McGrath described as "exciting" and "great" and marred only by "five seconds none of us knew anything about."

The following are Viacom owned companies. A conservative parent's worst nightmare.
Remember Simon & Schuster who paid Hillary $8 million for her book & CBS did that lovely hatchet job on President Reagan with Mr. Streisand. |
It all makes sense. |

I wish I could find the comment by a thoughtful FReeper on one of the Super Bowl Boob threads. It pointed out the mother of all ironies. The same folks who produce this trash are generally the ones who hate W and are against the War on Terroism. At the same time, those who want us dead, want us dead because of the folks who produce this trash.

I guess it was to be expected that all of the media would focus on the "breast" when in fact the whole damn half time show was pathetic. It really makes you despair about the future.

That is a profound irony.

Really! This is getting out of hand.
If I want porn I'll download it from the internet or go to an adult book store.
It has no business on TV. Of course, discount the dozens of shows that revolve around soft porn and tasteless, talentless, bad writing jokes.

those who want us dead, want us dead because of the folks who produce this trash.I'm afraid you're right. MTV USA promotes a sort of debased trash that no sane person would want in their home, either here or abroad. It's quite perverse.
But MTV produces separate regional feeds for Europe, SE Asia, and South Asia which do NOT stoop to the same carnal level as MTV USA. Entirely different formats, "DJs", music, and cultural approaches.
MTV Europe still has the semi-artsy sense of the original MTV; MTV Singapore is cutesy adolescent (the most daring thing I saw recently was an MTV Singapore host asking to be kicked in the butt in public, and everyone was wearing their clothes); MTV India is into silliness and yuk yuks.
Unfortunately, the trashiest and most perverse MTV material is reserved for American youth, by huge and inarguable margin. Along with the unique and healthy dose of gangsta rap which is not shown on any other MTV regional outlet.

Thanks. Whoever made the comment that I read yesterday had me thinking about it most of the day.
Somehow, the Bush people need to present the concept for the voters when the campaign gets down and dirty this summer and fall.

The same folks who produce this trash are generally the ones who hate W and are against the War on Terrorism. At the same time, those who want us dead, want us dead because of the folks who produce this trash. This was exactly what went thru my mind when I witnessed the boober bowl halftime show. I also thought that the radical muslims will be all the more incited due to the incident happening at the climax of EID.

Interesting. I wonder why.In Europe, they don't like gangsta rap; in Singapore, they'd shut MTV down if it got too out of hand (and also because it serves the Malaysian and Indonesian markets); in India they like Indian-style rock, not gangsta rap.

Ever seen Indian music videos?
They have *really* good dancers, and they do a lot of really good dancing, then suddenly they'll throw in some of those ugly hip-hop moves. A jarring incongruity.

We're pretty sure the kids will survive it, but we're less sanguine about the long-term effects of the daily sex diet that Ms. McGrath is feeding poorly supervised youngsters. I think many folks will be surprised to read the following information. It seems as if the daily sex diet is more interesting to one group of poorly supervised youngsters, than it is to other groups. What is the agenda of Ms. McGrath and VIACOM?
Excerpt from an USATODAY article:
Blacks continue to watch more TV than any other demographic group, an average of 76.8 hours a week the most viewing in eight years compared with 53.1 hours a week for whites. Black homes watch far more daytime, late-night, Saturday morning and cable programming. MTV, Lifetime, Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network are significantly more popular among black viewers than non-blacks.

The most important thing is to educate parents of the MTV target audience. Many of those parents watched MTV in the early 80's when the channel simply showed videos. They may not entirely be aware of what it has become now.
It's ironic to think that the network that produced that halftime show is the same one that, years ago, forever banned Andrew Dice Clay for telling too many dirty jokes at their awards show.

Yeah, its strange stuff. And the MTV DJs sometimes get dressed-up in traditional Indian garb with turbans and sometimes wierd makeup, and it's a festival of humor (I think they're somewhat mocking more traditional INdian culture, but not sure).
MTV Singapore is mostly the DJs yakking and yukking between vids, somewhat like the original MTV USA. They are pretty respectful of their audiences and culture from what I can see (in the USA you'd call them "normal" kids). Interesting, frequently the DJs are switching from English, to Bahasa Malaysia, to Bahasa Indonesia all in the same dialogue.

Remember only a short time ago when Peter Jennings decided it wouldn't be proper for Toby Keith's Angry American song? What is Peter's opinion on Super Bowel?

I am bipartisan because I have equal contempt for both parties. One reason is because of cable television. They are for all practical purposes a taxing body. I do not believe in censorship. But I do not believe in being taxed on my cable bill by paying for networks that I do not watch. I would like to subscribe to cable or satellite and pay for only the channels that I do watch. As it is, I never watch MTV or three quarters of the channels that I am forced to subscribe to, but I pay for all this trash. I would like to see some of these trashy channels survive in a free unsubsidized market. Hey, you boys and girls in the Republican Party who tow the free trade line, why don't you make cable and satellite and unsubsidized marketplace? Could it be that the babblings of Mr. Nader have some truth in them and politicians serve their corporate masters before they serve those who elect them?
To: leadpenny
those who want us dead, want us dead because of the folks who produce this trash. Not to defend MTV, but those who want us dead want us dead because they want us dead. Hollyweid is only one manifestation of why we are the infidels.
They want us dead because they are uncivilized murderous barbarians. They don't respect life, not even their own. Don't forget that.
That said, it is ironic that "the same folks who produce this trash are generally the ones who hate W and are against the War on Terrorism" and the terrorists would revel in killing them.
