CANNIBAL KILLER HAD VIOLENT PORN IMAGES
MOVIEGUIDEĀ® ^ | January 13, 2004 | Dr. Ted Baehr

Posted on 01/15/2004 1:00:19 PM PST by Simi Valley Tom

On trial in Kassel, Germany, Armin Meiwes has confessed to killing a man and eating his flesh, according to the Birmingham Post on Jan. 6.

Investigators testified that hundreds of pornographic images were found on his home computer; the content ranged from homosexual sex to depictions of torture and sexual violence. This evidence, coupled with psychological examinations, has prompted prosecutors to label the crimes "sexually motivated," which serves as a frightening warning about the dangers of pornography and media violence.

Countless scientific studies have shown disturbing links between watching pornography and media violence with sexual violence and criminal violence in real life. The proof of the mass media’s potential negative effects on children and adults is ample and clear.

The Christian Film & Television Commission™ and its flagship entity, MOVIEGUIDE®, is trying to improve this situation by influencing decision makers and opinion leadersa in the entertainment industry and Hollywood and by training families, including children and teenagers, to be media-wise consumers. It is the major Christian advocacy group working in Hollywood today.

By supporting MOVIEGUIDE® and the Christian Film & Television Commission™’s mission to redeem the values of the entertainment industry, you can help protect society from this negative influence and promote the life-changing Gospel of Jesus Christ. To quote its founder, Dr. Ted Baehr, “He who controls the media controls the culture.” Christians cannot afford to ignore this truth, because it governs everything that we do, including electing the politicians and appointing the judges who regulate our society.

His computer probably had Windows ME on it too. Perhaps that led him to madness?

Without a doubt. As often as ME crashes, I can understand why he might get homicidal about his inability to access his porn....

That's surprising.  I'd thought he'd have puppy dog screen savers and lots of emoticons.

Wonder what the odds are that DU was in his favorites?

Does anyone have links to these "countless" scientific studies?

It's not the porn, it's the psychosis..

OTOH, it appears to be the case the the psychosis and the porn are part of a feedback process.

If obsession with pornography had no effect on people, then ads wouldn't work. Reading books wouldn't influence people. Education wouldn't work. It's simple - what people read, look at and hear has effects.

Whatever people absorb their minds in through seeing, hearing and so on affects the mind. Not everyone is affected to the same degree as everyone is an individual. And people who have more inner strength don't succomb to pernicious influences as much, nor do they dabble or indulge. That's why governments in general do not like people who have inner strength.

Maybe you should take a look at how many people engage in viewing sexually explicit/related materials.
Porn is, IIRC, among the top 10 industries. ( I think it's #2, [no pun intended]).

If there were, indeed, a correlation, the streets of america would be running red with blood, and our hospitals overlfowing with victims of sexual assault..

It is not happening..

As I said, the porn had nothing to do with this man's psychosis, it's the psychosis that had to do with the porn.
That is, he sought it out, and would have found other avenues to fill his "needs", if necessary. ( In fact, he did.. he fullfilled his sick fantasy by "acting it out". )
I would also guess that the material was "specific" to his mental abberration, having to do with sado-masochism, torture, bondage, snuff, and yes, cannibalism.

Well, that's your opinion.

If you go back to my post, you'll note that I called it a "feedback loop" between porn and psychosis. I do not suggest that his cannibalistic tendencies were caused by pornography, but I will suggest that his urges were definitely sharpened and encouraged by it.

If you've ever looked at pornography, you'll recognize that you're not a passive viewer of the stuff -- you have a sexual response to it. Furthermore, if you have ever actively sought out pornography, you know that it was probably because you were seeking a sexual response.

This fellow (and, apparently, the vast majority of sex offenders) would be no different -- he had a sexual response to pornography, and he sought out pornography to get a sexual response. Where he differs from you or me is in that his choice of sexual stimulus is profoundly disordered; and (because he's psychotic) he has no mechanism by which to govern his actions.

Absolutely. There is a feedback loop there, just as there's a freeback in almost anything else you mentally consume. Sex is just more primal, and more apt to make you lose control of yourself. (Hunger's another one, but they haven't criminalized binging after reading food porn. Yet...)

But it's a chicken and egg deal. Would he have eventually eaten people if he hadn't read porn?

And if we took the porn away from him and made him think "porn is bad" would you call him "cured"? : ) *

J

* "no... but he sure cured that other guy - in the smokehouse!" ba dum - bump. Crash....
