Homeschool FReeper Help (vanity)
me

Posted on 01/04/2004 12:04:24 PM PST by netmilsmom

I need help, quickly. My husband has almost agreed that my children can be homeschooled. My six year old's bestfriend is starting homeschooling as of tomorrow. However, my husband thinks that sending her to school for a week following this Christmas vacation, will get her back into the swing of working (eventhough we did lessons through the break too).

Does anyone have any references to help me with the concept of starting her after break rather than doing a week then pulling her?

I have the curriculm and we are ready....

Make a clean start of it.

If you're ready, they are ready, without the distraction of socialistic school for only a few days.

Good luck.

Remember, when the family homeschools, EVERYBODY in the family learns.

you, as "teacher", will find you too are learning the math, reading, spelling, science, writing, geography and history lessons.

It's a personal decision. I just jumped in. It sounds like you are ready though. Your classroom will be much different from a public school one so another week at school shouldn't make a difference. It may even make it more difficult for you to remove her. Either way, I wish you the best. It's not always easy but it is so worth it.

Seems to me like sending her back for a week might make the transition harder, not easier, unless she needs a bit of "closure" to say goodbye, bring home her supplies, etc. She'll be getting back into the "school" routine when it will be an adjustment to move out of that routine.

You are blessed she also has a good friend who will be homeschooling. Although we keep her busy in Scouts and soccer, the older of my children who homeschools still misses the daily "routine" with friends at times, although she basically likes homeschooling, is glad to be away from some of the negative school stuff, and is definitely getting a better education...

I don't understand the dilemma. If the past months haven't caused terrible damage, what will one week do? Confused, here.

Unless there are goodbyes to be said, or other ties which need to be broken, I don't see any reason to go back. I would think it would make things more difficult having their feet in both worlds.

I doubt if there is any conclusive reference to indicate the right path either way. As a home-schoolerI say, if you're ready, do it.

Actually I think it is Calculus at 11. One of his daughters is on one of the FR finest threads as well. Won awards for writing. I've had the honor of meeting his girls and they are wonderful and beautiful ladies.

If you did lessons through the break, it would probably just be harder to put her back in there and then pull her back out again.

Besides, you're going to face this problem every time summer is over and breaks are over (getting back into the swing of working), and so you're not going to do this all those times, too, right? It's probably better to make a clean break.

We just dive right back in after the holidays, usually a bit more structured than usual. Just do it is all I can say. Don't spend too long a subject that the child gets totally bored and it's great.

Hi Lady!!!
I guess the difference is that her best friend won't be there and she is in a class of some of the most STUCK UP 1st graders I have ever met. These girls were picked up out of one kindergarten and put into a 1st grade while my daughter's 1st grade was shuffled. She sees her best friend on the playground but this little girl will no longer be there.
Also, her sister will no longer go to preschool and if she attends for a week, I have to pay for a month.

You know I value your opinion!!

I checked the bump list register and found two friends who seem to have ping lists for this.
