Prayer Request for my Mother

My mother is in the hospital undergoing tests. So far, the doctors have discovered a 3-centimeter mass in her liver, a 4-centimeter mass in her right adrenal gland, and a suspicious lesion in her left lung. She has been sick for a year, suffering from what we thought was a recurrence of depression. During the past three months, she lost over 20 pounds and became so weak that we finally convinced her to go to the hospital on Saturday.

Although I haven't posted here very often, because I've been so busy working and trying to take care of my mother's needs, I lurk often and I know that many of you will include my mother in your prayers.

I also want to urge any of you who know someone who is suffering from depression to insist that they have a complete physical examination before you trust a psychiatrist to prescribe anti-depressants. That's what we did, and I don't know that I will ever forgive myself for it.

I am so grateful to all of you who took time during this busy season to pray for my Mother and me and to send kind words my way.

My mother's doctor told her yesterday that she has lung cancer that has metasticized to the liver and the adrenal gland. He told me that there isn't much they can do other than chemotherapy. An oncologist came by to see my mother yesterday afternoon, but no course of action has been decided upon yet, because we are awaiting the final pathology reports that are due tomorrow.

My father died of brain cancer in 1987, and my Aunt (my Mother's only sister) is currently battling breast cancer that has metasticized to her lungs and bones. I know that the coming months are going to be difficult but, with God's help, and your prayers, I will have the strength to be a source of comfort to them.

My wife's mom had pheocrysotoma from adrenal tumours. It was a rough ride and can definitely cause extreme mood shifts and fear...but it can be treated.
