Readers are invited to send in the most strained and mealy-mouthed statements from the devastated press and anti-war politicians and activists following the capture of Saddam. First up: Saddam's paid-up British anti-war activist, George Galloway: "This will not stop the Iraqi resistance. if anything, it may set the resistance free, if you like, from the cloud of Saddam Hussein, and transform it into a purely national resistance movement without the charge that it's being controlled from behind by the deposed president." Galloway must be worried sick about what Saddam might tell the coalition. So must Chirac. - 4:23:59 PM

From AP, Chicago off Drudge link:
Kristin Williams, who lives in suburban New Albany, Ohio, said she found it fitting that a man she considers a coward was found hiding in a hole.
"Still, it's sad to see someone in that state of affairs. He looked like a caged animal," said Williams, 36. "Going to church, he was one of the people I prayed for, too."

But DUers are so much fun. One of them suggested that we'd had Saddam in custody for months and timed this for Bush's political benefit. Someone going by the name Liberalhistorian said "The problem is trying to convince others of that without sounding paranoid, crazy, and desperate." Indeed.

I nominate several lines from
this Newsweek article . . .
"In a part of the world where pride and dignity mean everything, the images were clearly intended to shame. "
Translation: The U.S. is a mean bully.
"IGC members said they would reinstate Iraq's death penalty, suspended during the American occupation. The scene could be a circus, and a dangerous one."
Time to call Hunter Thompson . . .
Saddam's capture sent the Democrats scrambling, warning that the celebrations were wonderful but could be short-lived.
Translation: Howie Dean and his anti-war platform is toast . . .

60 minutes / Leslie Stahl doing their level best to help Saddam. Trying to get Rummy to commit to Red Cross vists, no use of truth serum, etc. Pathetic. I think CBS is terrified for the Western Euro's...(esp. France), the relations that will come to light.
Another theme: All is lost for Bush; still no WMD's. Esp. when Saddam confirms no WMD's.
The press continues to hang their collective hopes on the War; as the economy looks like a looser attack strategy. So even with the capture of Saddam, the 'success' of the war hinges on what Saddam says re: WMD's
The Press and the nine Dem clowns are as dellusional as Saddam.

One thing a lot of people, including Freepers forget is that Iraq, while it had dictatorial leadership had a SOCIALIST government. (Actually, dictatorial leadership is the inevitable consequence of Socialism/Communism or it's kissing cousins Facism and Nazism). Watch for the world Libs to start agitating for a return to Socialism in Iraq "For the children" of course.

Someone on TV just praised Biden. He said that Biden (and emphasized that Biden wasn't running for President) has been the only one on that side who congratualted Bush and recognized that this was a very positive event. The commentator (could have been Green on CNN) went on to say that there was at least one dem "acting like a grownup." Yep, actual words!

That's been a dirty secret of some of the Saddamites' support for the dictator; Iraq was a socialist nation. There was a reason they protested the "war" internationally at Red holidays like May Day and International Woman's Day.

I just don't get the fixation with DU. If DU is so wonderful, why don't those who extol their virtues just stay there? Personally, I don't want that anti-American crap in my face. This is not the place for that.

I think it's just the natural human desire to see those who are wrong, stupid and perhaps evil, squirm in agony and defeat! I think it's kind of cute.
(The leftists themselves, aren't cute, but their discomfiture is nice to see. I can't deny that I like to smell burnt liberal in the morning!)

I think it's kind of cute.Cute is when my cat nibbles on my fingers at 4 am for my attention. DU is not cute. They are a bunch of misguided illiterate yahoos who wouldn't know how to land a decent job if they were given it.
To: MrsEmmaPeel
I know that DUers aren't cute (far, far from it!). I was attempting a little humor - and just a little enjoyment at the despair and hollow empty loser feeling they must be experiencing! I long to see their defeat in Nov. 04.

Among the ABC radio "news" reporting of the capture there was the nonchalant report that the capture will help the President politically.
Help the President politically?!!
We are in a war arguably the most dangerous foreign war we have ever faced -- not just Iraq but the entire war to defend against radical Islam and our own internal enemies -- and the mainstream talks politics!!
If the politicians take up that or a similar theme then this is no different from the Vietnam era. No wonder General Franks (retired) warns that a WMD attack here will mean the end of the Constitution for the duration. Adults will take charge.

Did you see Lieberman on MTP this morning? His main comment: I don't want Saddam tried by the International Court because they won't apply the death penalty. Iraq or US, but it has to be somewhere with the death penalty.
Made me remember that politicians of both parties - even ones that are running for president - occasionally give a crap about the real world.

We are in a war arguably the most dangerous foreign war we have ever faced -- not just Iraq but the entire war to defend against radical Islam and our own internal enemies -- and the mainstream talks politics!! It takes a Daniel Pearl or a David Bloom to get the media's attention where it belongs (sadly, not a Michael Kelly).
Short of one of their own being killed, everything is now seen through the lens of partisan politics first.

The most interesting person to watch in coming days is Chirac.
I find it difficult to believe he has not been on Saddam's payroll.
Let's hope our interrogators address the issue of Saddam's secret collaborators as well as WMDs.

Toward the end of Brian Wilson's spot on FNC Sunday, Wilson was talking to Chris Wallace and John Warner. Wallace said "I expect that Bush won't repeat the 'Mission Accomplished' mistake from the carrier," and Warner observed "But this mission WAS accomplished -- they captured Saddam Hussein!"

George Will's column (as it appeared in the Houston Chronicle) contained these comments "today" from Presidential contenders...
This trial belongs solely to the Iraqi people
Furthermore, no Democrat is running for president as a little ray of sunshine, but John Kerry used the occasion Sunday morning to tell Fox News that although the capture was good, the administration still has not done enough about AIDS. Can someone that tone-deaf govern? Howard Dean was more gracious than he was when Saddam fled Baghdad. Then Dean said, "I suppose" that Sad-dam's removal was a good thing.

I just don't get the fixation with DU. If DU is so wonderful, why don't those who extol their virtues just stay there?1.) I have never, EVER seen any FReeper post anything even remotely LIKE "DU is wonderful" on this site, and challenge you to provide a working link to said comment. Pointing and laughing at the illiterate slimeballs does not translate, inexplicably, into "these illiterate slimeballs are great" anywhere save (possibly) on the Bizarro-World.
2.) Our "fixation" with DU (your word, not mine) is the same sort of enjoyment one naturally derives from watching tiny, artless toddlers pretending to be intelligent, capable grown-ups... and (naturally) pratfalling hilariously in their failed attempts.
You, personally, don't find it equally as funny...? Don't click onto the handy links provided, then. Nobody's forcing you to stare and giggle along with the rest of us, you know. :)
