I am posting on behalf of my brother-in-law, who is a VietNam Vet. His great nephew,Cooper Hawk is in need of a miracle. I told him and my sister Bernie, Miracles happen at Free Republic.
Little Cooper's parents are Alfred and Holly. Holly found out only three weeks before Cooper was borne all the problems he had. Being a good young woman, she left this to God and against her doctor's advice still brought little Cooper in this world.
Cooper's problems are so severe, where they lived in Florida, the only place with the machine Cooper needed to survive, called an ECMO machine, was located in Gainesville. So the parents alternate at the Ronald McDonald House, in order to be with Cooper at all times.
Cooper has spent his life since he was born September 17th, in ICU- NeoNatal. In two months Cooper has undergone such an enormous amount of procedures and surgery. The following are little Cooper's problems, that are so much for him and his parents to bear.
Cooper was born with DH (diaphragm hernia), his intestines were all pushed up into his lung and of course he couldn't breath properly. They did not even know if Cooper even 'had' a right lung. For the one lung was underdeveloped. The good news is, Cooper survived this surgery to correct the intestinal problem.
He has always been on a ventilator and medicated to keep him sedate, for too much upset would be problematic. He has a feeding tube naturally for digestion.
Cooper has a bone in his neck that is soft and a cleft palate. They do not know yet how deep this palate goes. He has a whole in his little heart and the ECMO recycles blood by-products for him.
Cooper is now two months old and weighs 8 lbs. 1 ounce. The prayers we are asking for today are for the fact Cooper has developed a blood infection and this is very dire.
I asked my sister Bernie, what prayers should I ask for.(They have some prayer chains going down there). I asked is it for Cooper to be home with his young parents for the Holidays.
What Bernie said to me ( she visits Cooper and cares for his five year old brother), Just please pray 'for' Cooper to live.
So here I am fellow friends, Christians and Freepers. Please pray for a miracle for Cooper, his is in such dire straits, no human, let alone a little guy should be born with all the odds against him as this.
Also please pray for his Mom Holly, who is going through her doubts in God, to feel filled with God's love and know He will provide the best for this little boy.

I will pray for Alfred and, especially, Holly to stay strong and keep the faith. Their faith can do wonders to give strength to little Cooper.
God's miracles happen everyday...direct them to the prayer thread started by Brad's Gramma for baby Logan. The initial and updated pictures speak volumes.
I join my prayers with Cooper's family, and others here, that he may do better each and every day so that he may go home sometime soon to grow and prosper.

Just got off the phone with Wayne, Cooper's uncle, my brother-in-law. He said the best he can say is everyday with a DH baby is touch and go. His blood infection began to clear up, which I know all the prayers for our little guy had alot to do with that! But the bad part is he has developed a new infection at the feeding tube site and was running a high fever Wednesday when Wayne saw him.
I am waiting for a call back from my sister, because she is the one good at details.
Wayne told me some babies live and DH has claimed them at 6 months. So our little Coooper is in God's hands.

Just got off the phone with Bernie. Wayne pretty much had the right info. Did I tell you all that Cooper no longer needs the ECMO machine? But with him constantly developing infections they cannot wean him off the ventilator as they wanted.
Our prayers should now also go for Cooper's Dad Alfred. He is breaking down. He is fighting with his boss. He does not want to leave Cooper's side which also wears on their 5 year old who has so many germs from kindergarten he does not see Cooper often.
The sad thing about a DH child is it really is day to day. And when their is a development it is not usually a good one.
Well keep all informed as I hear it and God Bless you all!

What does DH stand for? Is the stoma site infected? Do the parents have any control over care?
This is how I keep Kings Stoma site in good shape every four hours I Pat the site clean with a 50/50 solution of Hydrogenperoxide and saline water
If the site gets any raw areas I swab it with Saf-Gel which is a algean ky solution works miracles in keeping the area from breaking down. Hope that helps. Some facilities use and leave on way to long 4x4 gauze pads. I have found sometimes that just breeds nasty stuff esp. it the pad is left without being changed for long periods of time.

FYI
Treatment Options for DH
Whether a family chooses to terminate the pregnancy or carry to term for postnatal management, accurate counseling regarding the expected outcome is crucial. For CDH fetuses with chromosomal anomalies, survival would be rare.
Postnatal management strategies include planned delivery, immediate stabilization, and immediate access to specialized ventilation techniques including nitric oxide and ECMO. In rare cases, a specialized delivery technique, known as the Ex Utero Intrapartum Treatment (EXIT) procedure, which can offer immediate ECMO cannulation, may be an option.

Thank you for that link, JP.
I was familiar with this condition, but I had no idea it occurred in one out of every 2500 births!
I will be praying hard for little Cooper. I know the severity of his problem.
God, please, we ask another miracle for this little boy.
We hold up little Cooper for your healing power.
Please hear our prayers, dear Lord.
We pray, also, dear Lord, for your strength to help the family through this terrible time in their lives.
Help the family pull together, dear Lord.
We pray in Jesus name.
Amen.

Continued prayers for Cooper and entire family. May God Bless and Protect him. And may he give strength to the whole family to get them through this time.
May God watch over Cooper's five yr.old brother who I know doesn't understand any of this. My prayers being offered for him too. This kind of situation isn't easy on young siblings either....they just can't express it. May his angels light and guard and rule and guide him, Amen.
