Marquis Jobes Update
A week ago today, an Amber Alert was issued for Marquis Jobes. The 13-year-old is believed to have been abducted at about the same time his mother was murdered in their Chesterfield home.
Today, police have released some information they hope will help find Marquis. They say Marquis may be in the custody of a man named Anthony Rankine. And they have new information that Rankine may have driven a rental van recently.
Police say they don't think Rankine is still operating the van but they hope someone might remember seeing it or Rankine in recent weeks.
Police say the van is a white 2003, Ford Econoline van with side windows. It has Virginia tags: JER 5286. The vehicle identification number is 1FMRE11L43HB22501.
13-year-old Marquis Jobes has been missing since October 25th. That's when police found his mother, 32-year-old Tasha Robinson, shot to death in her Chesterfield county home. Police believe Jobes is with Rankine who was living in the house at the time. Rankine is also wanted for illegal possession of a fire arm, drug distribution, conspiracy and immigration violations.
If you think you may have seen this van in recent weeks, please call Chesterfield Police at 748-1251. We'll have more on the search for Marquis Jobes tonight on 8News at 6.

Police Find Man Wanted In Missing Boy Case Dead
POSTED: 6:47 a.m. EST November 6, 2003
UPDATED: 7:38 a.m. EST November 6, 2003
RICHMOND, Va. -- Police in Richmond, Va., have found a man wanted in a missing-boy case dead.
The body of Anthony Rankine, 29, was discovered inside a van parked behind the headquarters of the Department of Motor Vehicles. Police aren't saying how he died but say the body had apparently been in the van for several days.
They had been looking for Rankine since his girlfriend was found shot dead in her home a week and a-half ago. Police had issued an Amber Alert for her son, Marquis Jobes, 13, saying he could be in "extreme danger."
The boy is still missing.
Virginia police say Rankine was a drug dealer with ties to organized crime. Rankine was from Jamaica and was also wanted for immigration violations.

Arrest Made In Missing Boy Case
Oct 31, 2003 11:03 pm US/Eastern
(WJZ) Seven men, four Jamaican nationals and three illegal immigrants are arrested on drug and gun charges as police and federal officials in Chesterfield county, Virginia search their alleged associate.
Twenty eight year old Anthony Rankin is also a Jamaican national associated with a national and international drug enterprise. He is suspected in the murder of Tasha Robinson, whose body was found Saturday in her Virginia home. Police believe Rankin took Robinson's 13-year-old son Marquis Jobes after the murder.
One of the men arrested Friday is Raymond Barnett, an illegal immigrant based in Hyattsville, Prince Georges county. Virginia police believe Rankin and the boy are traveling north on the I-95 corridor, where police say Rankin has more possible Jamaican drug trade associates.
Gang experts say Jamaican drug gangs are well-known for their deadly retribution and are considered more violent than other gangs. They carry expensive and efficient military grade weapons.
Despite Rankins alleged ties to this violent organization, police are still confident they can find young Marquis Jobes alive.
FREEPERS ON THE I-95 CORRIDOR, BE AWARE!

I hope he did escape as well, but with the new info I just posted from almost a week ago, I'm afraid things are just looking worse for this little boy. They found and arrested some of his ILLEGAL "associates" - and they're a bad bunch.

I'm wondering if Rankin's "associates" killed Marquis' mom as retribution for something Rankin did, Rankin grabbed the boy to run away, not kidnap him, and they found Rankin, killed him, and then took the boy with them. Not outside the scope of this horrible story. Even if you consider how scary Rankin looked. He may have been trying to save the boy since his mom was murdered.

I don't know why they'd take the boy with them - I think they'd have shot him too. I'm thinking, since they found the van in downtown Richmond, the kid might be hiding in alleys around there and have no idea where to go or who to turn to to be safe.

I hope the boy is safe but I have my doubts. Why let him live when he probably knows exactly what happened? So sad. Prayers are sent for him.

Why let him live when he probably knows exactly what happened? But why bother concealing the body? They didn't with the other two.
I think there's a better-than-fair chance he escaped & is hiding.

More info on Rankine's death
Details released in Rankine's death
Richmond Times-Dispatch
Nov 8, 2003
Anthony Novedo Rankine, the man sought in the disappearance of a Chesterfield County teen until he was found slain Wednesday, died from a gunshot wound to the head, the State Medical Examiner's Office said yesterday. Rankine, 29, died in the same manner as his girlfriend, Tasha S. Robinson, 32, who was found shot to death 11 days earlier. She, too, had been shot in the head, the medical examiner's office said. Police began looking for Rankine, a Jamaican national with ties to organized drug trafficking in his homeland, after finding Robinson's body at her Chesterfield County home early Oct. 25. Her 13-year-old son, Marquis Anton Jobes, has been missing since then. Rankine's body was discovered about 7:20 a.m. Wednesday in a rental van that was left in a Department of Motor Vehicles parking lot at DMV Drive and Leigh Street. Investigators believe the van and Rankine's body had been abandoned there several days to a week earlier. Rankine had lived with Marquis, Robinson and her 22-month-old son, Mahkail Rankine, for about a year, police said. Chesterfield County authorities issued an Amber Alert for Marquis on Oct. 28. His whereabouts remain unknown. - Mark Bowes
