Jeb Bush Detractors can leave their apologies here.

Posted on 10/21/2003 2:47:00 PM PDT by Pukin Dog

If the moderators will allow this thread, I would like to hear from those with courage enough to admit their mistakes in attacking Governor Jeb Bush, "suggesting that blood would be on his hands", calling him a murderer and worse with no evidence to back up their assaults.

While today is a great day, I would like to know how many people are willing to stand up and admit their wrongs?

Some may think it unnecessary, but I think a pound of flesh is in order, in a single place were we can all see and read about it. Please remove if this is out of bounds, but in all the congradulatory threads, I dont see too many folks willing to suck it up.

Thanks. Some are still carping about him:

Bush need to send the State Police immediately to Terri's care facility. He also needs to send a special physician to oversee her treatment. The State Police need to guard Terri 24 hour a day and 7 days a week. Next -- Bush needs to get a Catholic Priest to her bed side. Never too late for miracles.

At once! Yesterday! Last week already!

Perhaps it is already too F'n late. I'm so disappointed with Jeb Bush I could just scream.

I admit it. Freely, openly, publicly, all of it. I was wrong.

I never said it, never posted it, but I thought it.

So, I will be the first to 'fess up.
I didn't think he had the political "guts" to do the right thing.

I was wrong.

While I admit that I was exceedingly angry with him going into this weekend, all of my posts have been about influencing him into stepping in and saving this woman's life. Had things come out differently and if this bill had not been proposed, then maybe I would have been a serious detractor.

While I never came down on Governor Bush as I had read in many others posts, I did take the time to send him an email and thanking him for his assistence with Terri's case, without his help I doubt this would have happened. I hope that once the emotions of this have settled, those people will come to realize this and throw there support to Governor Bush. He was unjustly attacked.

Let me boldly put a foot forward. I have never remarked on Gov. Bush concerning this case, nor have I kept close track of it, but I am wondering, was Gov. Bush not willing to make a decision on his own, politically? This way he shares the decision with the legislature and is not solely liable.

Again, I am not familiar with what Gov. Bush could have done prior to this legislation.

I am pleased at this recent turn of events. I was offended by what I saw as a silence from Jeb Bush last week. Needless to say, things have changed. To whatever role Jeb played personally in turning this around, I am grateful.

Last week I thought Bush could do something and it would seem I was right. I will not be sorry for that.

I never bashed Bush the Gov...always thought he would do what he COULD...However:

"I'm sorry for the things I've done...

I've shamed myself with lies...

My cruelty has punctured me...

And now I'm running dry..."

I agree, far to many people were just too quick to denounce Jeb on this issue before all the facts were in.

I love Jeb, but I have been critical of him about this. I am thrilled about what he has done, but I wish he had done it last week before any more damage to Terri could be done.

On the other hand, maybe this was the soonest he could put the bill together, which I know takes time and much effort with many involved.

So, I am willing to say, sorry I doubted you Jeb. Now let's get cracking on getting Terri away from that hideous Michale Schiavo!

I cannot believe...with EVERYTHING Jeb Bush has done, folks feel like he didn't do enough. He exhausted every effort. Not many would do such.

Well, what I said is that I have always admired Jeb Bush and spoken well of him in the past, but that IF he didn't put his words into actions he would deserve our blame.

So, I don't know if that rates an apology or not.

Also, while I agree that some of the comments were intemperate and over the top, I don't think it hurt for the Republicans to know how very strongly people felt about this issue.

Perhaps it was the flood of calls/ email that made him move. Around this time last week, he was "sympathic" but said that the "ultimate decision was with the courts." Many became under the impression that he was going to strattle the fence. As of last Thursday, he seemed perfectly content with doing nothing. There wasn’t an announcement, interview, or article to make anyone doubt otherwise.

Perhaps Bush’s people heard the calls or saw the News Max poll, which many said that his lack of action adversely affected their opinion of him. Perhaps his people were reading threads on FR? Perhaps they got nervous, that they were alienating their core base (while not making him any friends on the left) so he decide to act.

So before you go around asking for apologies, please consider that perhaps it was these comments that got Bush in motion.

I do think a lot better of him now, but why didn't he include Terri's bill in the expansion of the call (to the Legislature for the special session) MONDAY, when he had a chance?

Also, why didn't he use other means at his disposal to intervene. His Department of Social Services wouldn't hesitate in kicking in a door and removing a child for a whole lot less than this.

If this lady is not brain-dead (and I believe she isn't), then euthanasia is not legal in Florida or anywhere in the USA. As I have learned over the past week, a feeding tube is not "life support".

If Terri's body has been damaged from her starvation, Gov. Bush cannot escape the blame that he could have done something sooner.

"If the moderators will allow this thread, I would like to hear from those with courage enough to admit their mistakes in attacking Governor Jeb Bush, "suggesting that blood would be on his hands", calling him a murderer and worse with no evidence to back up their assaults."

Unfortunately, there were alot of people who refused to give Jeb Bush the benefit of the doubt and chose to slam him--royally--regarding this case.

They need to stop being so impulsive, read up on the facts of the case, understand what the man could and could not do and put a bit more faith in the high road. For as much time as some people spend online and the wealth of information that is available if you just look for it, it never ceases to amaze me that they don't get the facts..... FIRST!!

Let's face it, we're pissed when the left does it, and complain about it BIG TIME...but yet alot of people did the same to Jeb.....somehow, he just doesn't strike me as a hard hearted individual.....I'm glad for EVERYONE, especially her Mom and Dad!!
