Would we not, 60 years from now, persecute the decendents of the "19 hi-jackers"?

Sorry, typing is a foreign language to me.

Do you REALLY think this would be an AP story if Prescott Bush were NOT George W. Bush's grandfather???

Of course it wouldn't be a story unless it relates to someone currently famous. I think the story nicely vindicated Bush in the end. This could be liberal junk for liberal consumption, as their perceptive slant would surely make this as tainting GW.

I have no love for Bush and wouldn't mind seeing his squeaky clean image taken down a notch to the level of person I believe he is, but it'd better be something good, not this, and definitely something more substantive than oral sex with interns.

Prescott Bush, the current president's grandfather, didn't even work at the bank. He was just a member of the Board of Directors

You seem to have missed this part:

Both Harrimans and Bush were partners in the New York investment firm of Brown Brothers, Harriman and Co., which handled the financial transactions of the bank as well as other financial dealings with several other companies linked to Bank voor Handel that were confiscated by the U.S. government during World War II.
He was actively shifting Nazi money around. It's pretty clear.

"...so they choose to attack the poster."

I'm not really attacking you, rather, I'm expressing adamant disappointment in the lowered standards of this "info-tainment" article as opposed to what is considered really new "news!"

So some papers picked it up and even put "Hitler" in the sensationalistic headline. I thought conservative Freepers had some sort of inate standards and could see through such "slow news day" pure unadulterated leftist propoganda!

As you so adroitly pointed out, the lazy presstitutes pick up and print whatever the AP puts out instead of investing anything into truly investigative journalism. So they all hype this crappola enough on their own. Why do you need to further their avalanche of garbage just so you can sensationalize FR on a slow weekend, or something?

You will see that movie about Skull and Bones playing over and over and over again on cable over the next few months

That wouldn't be good for Kerry.

I think you've missed some important aspects of this story - some of which were reported in this article and some of which were not:

Prescott Bush, the current president's grandfather, didn't even work at the bank. He was just a member of the Board of Directors. Many prominent people are on multiple boards. Most of the time, appointing a prominent person to a board amounts to little more than an honorific.

As a member of the board of Union Banking, Bush was three or more companies removed from the Thyssen group of businesses. Union Banking was owned by Bank Voor Handel, a Dutch bank described in the AP piece as "closely affiliated" with a German conglomerate, United Steel Works. The latter company was a part of the Thyssen group of businesses, which the AP piece describes as an "empire."

More importantly, the implied "link" between Prescott Bush and Hitler through Thyssen is buried in the AP's 7th paragraph. Apparently, seven of the U.S. directors of the Union Banking board held 4000 shares of the bank's stock. Prescott Bush held exactly ONE share.

Then, to poke even further holes in their own smear, Salant goes on to write that Fritz Tyssen broke with the Nazis in 1938. That was the year before WWII broke out in Europe. Tyssen split with them over their persecution of Catholics and Jews. In other words, although he may have supported them early on, Tyssen wasn't a Nazi. When he learned the truth about them, he heroically bucked them at a time when they were the biggest and most dangerous power in Europe. In fact, he spent about four years in a Nazi prison during the war.

What meanum "we", paleface?

And why do you think "we" wouldn't have better things to do in 60 years than persecute somebody's descendants?

What sort of persecution did you have in mind, anyway? Full-fledged untouchable status, or can we stop at teasing them on the playground?

During May of 1938, (Ambassador Joseph) Kennedy engaged in extensive discussions with the new German Ambassador to the Court of St. James's, Herbert von Dirksen. In the midst of these conversations (held without approval from the U.S. State Department), Kennedy advised von Dirksen that President Roosevelt was the victim of "Jewish influence" and was poorly informed as to the philosophy, ambitions and ideals of Hitler's regime. (The Nazi ambassador subsequently told his bosses that Kennedy was "Germany's best friend" in London.)

Obviously you didn't like the post.

It pulled in 170 posts to date so there was at least some interest.

There is now another thread running on the same topic that was initiated today. It is currently pulling in 75+ posts. Again there must be some interest.

Chances are by Monday morning...there will be at least three more threads initiated on this same subject (seems like no one checks for duplicates anymore).

Would I post a article of this ones caliber again?

Yes, as long as it was from one of the major newswires.

Prescott is only a slice of the pie..in regards to what had been occuring in the 30's..and what was trying to *survive in the 40's.

Im sure you both have read pages and pages on the *Dulles brothers....know that Prison was just a signature away.
How events in one decade effect the following.
Truman did not follow up on Dulles....Dulles survived..and soon found favor in Trumans court.
Operation Paper clip...Movers like Dulles now assist the U.S. admin in aquireing what they need.
Dulles goes to the *Smokey back room..the resume of what he built and was apart of last well into Nixons Presidency.

Americas Space program...her pharmacuetical corps...The development of the CIA etc....Nazi's in the attic for sure.
But then..this foundation has taken America to great heights as nations go.

In Roosevelts admin..their were members of the CFR [Council on Foreign relations]...this thinktank group has been slotted in every admin since.

some are crossovers..lasting Rep/Dem and then Rep admins.

Today..some scratch their heads at the words which flow from Washington..the double speak.
Why is State Dept so anti Jew pro Arab?
Whats up with the Pentagon?

Their is *machinery at work..below the Presidents feet.
Make no mistake...America is in Iraq ..because *others want it so.
So too the reason the U.S. is in so many "Stans".
If it were not for Zbigniew Brzenzski's CFR work.."The Grand Chessboard"...most would have no clue as to why the U.S. now stradles the fence between Asia and EurAsia.

The thinkers in the background machinate Americas Geostrategic Primacy 24.

I think the story nicely vindicated Bush in the end.

Only if you are smart enough to put two and two together... or to read the entire article.

"The vast majority of people who read newspapers do not read beyond the first three paragraphs! Many read only the headlines."

That's the way "reporters" are taught to write in journalism school. That way the editor can trim from the bottom to make the article fit the layout of each page with a minimum of "See page B-17" for the continuation. They gotta have room for ads, too!

It's supposed to be read that way, otherwise you'd hafta sift through the whole rag to find out what in the heck is going on!!!

Of course there's "interest!" All the conspiracy keepers of odd knowledge (KOOK's) have loved this stuff since time immemorial! I.B. Farben, CFR, Skull & Bones, yada, yada, yada!!! It's worse than the Art Bell/George Nori show!!!

The rest of the replies are people protesting this bilious puke that's like acid reflux syndrome creating one more Malox Moment beyond all rhyme or reason. But... I guess I'll just live and let live and leave you to your mindless mystic "main stream" of stuff, that up to NOW, no "main stream" source would touch with hundred foot poles!

But for some reason, you've suddenly fallen for this stuff after seeing you post numerous newsworthy articles in the past. I guess I'm just surprised at your sudden change in taste and disappointed, too! Your standards had been much higher in the past... Oh well, we all change, one way or the other.

Some of us just never knew ya... that's all. Come to think of it... I may have had you mixed up with someone else!!!
