A Terrorist Sugar Daddy Named Saddam (MUST READ -- factual info)
Capitol Hill Blue ^ | Oct. 17, 2003 | DEROY MURDOCK

Critics of President Bush's Iraq policy employ a flimsy argument that nonetheless enjoys growing appeal among a largely hostile press corps. Since Saddam Hussein did not order the Sept. 11 attacks -- the fuzzy logic goes -- he has no ties to terrorists, especially al Qaeda. Therefore, the Iraq war was bogus, and Bush should be defeated. "The evidence now shows clearly that Saddam did not want to work with Osama bin Laden at all," Al Gore declared Aug. 7. Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.V., told the Los Angeles Times that Iraq's alleged al Qaeda links were "tenuous at best and not compelling." The Times slammed Vice President Cheney on Sept. 16 for making "sweeping, unproven claims about Saddam Hussein's connections to terrorism."

The president should confront his detractors by thoroughly detailing the evidence that connects Hussein to terrorists, including al Qaeda and possibly Sept. 11.

-- Stephen Hayes reported in the July 11 Weekly Standard that the official Babylon Daily Political Newspaper, published by Hussein's son, Uday, ran a "List of Honor" in its Nov. 14, 2002, edition.

Among 600 leading Iraqis named was: "Abid Al-Karim Muhamed Aswod, intelligence officer responsible for the coordination of activities with the Osama bin Laden group at the Iraqi embassy in Pakistan."

Carter-appointed federal appeals judge Gilbert Merritt discovered this document while helping Iraq rebuild its courts. He wrote in the June 25 Tennessean that two of his Iraqi colleagues remember secret police removing that embarrassing edition from newsstands. Judge Merritt speculates that Uday showcased these dedicated Baathists to "make them more loyal and supportive of the regime."

-- Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, director of an Afghan al Qaeda camp, fled for Baghdad after being injured as the Taliban fell. He received medical care and convalesced there for two months. He then opened a terrorist base in northern Iraq and arranged the October 2002 assassination of U.S. diplomat Lawrence Foley in Amman, Jordan.

-- According to Richard Miniter, author of the best-selling "Losing bin Laden," "U.S. forces recently discovered a cache of documents in Tikrit, Saddam's hometown, that show Iraq gave Mr. Yasin both a house and a monthly salary." Al Qaeda member Abdul Rahman Yasin was indicted for building the bomb that exploded beneath the World Trade Center on Feb.26, 1993, killing six and injuring some 1,000 New Yorkers.

-- While sifting through the Mukhabarat's bombed ruins last April 27, the Toronto Star's Mitch Potter and the London Telegraph's Inigo Gilmore discovered a Feb. 19, 1998, intelligence memo marked "Top Secret and Urgent." It said the agency would pay "all the travel and hotel costs inside Iraq to gain the knowledge of the message from bin Laden and to convey to his envoy an oral message from us to bin Laden."

Tantalizing clues also suggest that Saddam Hussein might not have shared the world's shock when the Twin Towers blazed.

-- His Salman Pak terror camp trained hijackers on an actual passenger jet.

-- On Jan. 5, 2000, Ahmad Hikmat Shakir _ an Iraqi airport greeter reportedly dispatched from Baghdad's Malaysian embassy _escorted Khalid al Midhar and Nawaz al Hamzi to a Kuala Lampur hotel where these two Sept. 11 hijackers met with 9/11 conspirators Ramzi bin al Shibh and Tawfiz al Atash. Five days later, Shakir disappeared. Qatari officials arrested him on Sept. 17, 2001. They discovered papers tying him to the 1993 WTC plot and "Operation Bojinka," al Qaeda's 1995 plan to atomize 12 jets over the Pacific.

-- Finally, Clinton-appointed Manhattan federal judge Harold Baer ordered Hussein to pay $104 million to the families of two 9/11 casualties.

"I conclude that plaintiffs have shown, albeit barely...that Iraq provided material support to bin Laden and al Qaeda." An airtight case? No, but sufficient evidence tied Hussein to 9/11 and won a May 7 federal judgment against him.

The administration should help Americans and the world understand the patterns that emerge through these sometimes-murky data. Plenty exists in the public record (and surely more should be declassified) to demonstrate that Iraq's liberation and rehabilitation are necessary phases of the War on Terror. President Bush and his spokesmen should present this case, not randomly, but repeatedly and in as comprehensive, well-documented and well-illustrated a fashion as their vast resources will allow.

While it's technically an opinion piece, but I hope the AM will leave it in Front Page news, because it has a lot of specific facts countering the claims that Saddam has not connection to terrorists.

I think the Bush administration and the Republicans should be making these points every day, every time a Dem makes the accusation, we should drag out the facts to counter it. Otherwise people only hear the Dem's lies -- this is what brings down Bush't approval ratings. The American people need to be told the truth.

Mega-bump! The Demonrats use the "big lie" approach every day - just repeat it enough and the gullible will believe the lie.
(The lamestream press wil happily repeat it for them.)
Then move on to the next lie. Their lies must be refuted every day, every time.

Democrats Prefer Saddam over Bush.

Just repeat that over and over for the next 12 months, and make THAT stick.

From the way they're talking, it believable (or maybe true?).

Now is not the time. It will weaken Dean, while he is our opponent of choice for 2004. Let Dean drag his party to the left. They underestimated Bush and don't see that they are speeding toward black ice. When the right time comes, Bush can focus on the evidence and suddenly the Dems are without traction. Next they will fall.

GWB is the black ice President.

Thanks for the ping and the post!

We do need to keep repeating the facts.

Stephen Hayes reported in the July 11 Weekly Standard that the official Babylon Daily Political Newspaper, published by Hussein's son, Uday, ran a "List of Honor" in its Nov. 14, 2002, edition.

The Hussein crime gang leaving us mountains of helpful paperwork evidence.

 Thanks, Tonkin!

Bump! Bush has not been personally putting forth data to thwart the "Big Lie". However, even with the rediculouse attacks on the economy and attempt to roll back the tax cuts, it is more and more evident that the Degenrats are going to LOOSE BIG TIME. Truth is winning out without "firing a shot"! (Figure of speech - at this point, I do not advocate "shooting" Degenerats.)

Since the election is still over a year away, I think half the voters aren’t yet paying attention, especially the usual group of “undecideds”.

Bush and Rove understand this and are allowing the democRATS to seemingly trash the President on a daily basis with no retribution. As we approach the election and with all the RATS having now shown their true colors of hate, lies and distortions concerning Bush, the tide will turn.

With all these RATS on record when the real electioneering starts next year, the flow of good news will quicken, repudiating the vile spewings of the RATS and the lib media and the voters will see the RATS to be the self-incriminating liars that they are.

All the connections between Saddam's regime and Al Qaeda have already been ignored by the rats and their lackeys in the media. I expect Bush to use those connections like a hammer when he's in a debate with the rat nominee. That way it can't be ignored and will yield maximum publicty with folks who are still undecided. Many of those folks are not paying attention now anyway.

Clinton canned Woolsey who said Ramzi Yousef was an Iraqi agent.

Atta and Al Ani meeting in Prague in April 2001 was no internet romance.

Demunists are in denial--and hoping for another 911.

That's about the way I see it too. It is anoying that no one puts the Degenerats in their place now; but that would only give us temporary satisfaction. Winning the next election and removing the "English" and "Spanish" versions of www.Whitehouse.gov will mean that it is once again written in AMERICAN! - I don't think the votes of just the English-Americans and Spanish-Americans will carry the election. - Once again, they will need ALL Americans.
