Not all that long ago, the cult of Bernie Sanders seemed immovable and impermeable. Most people understood that he had no chance of winning anything, yet there was a passionate contingent of the base that would cling to him no matter what.
That passionate contingent is still there, but Bernie is bleeding badly at the polls.
What's going on?
1. Bernie's campaign lacks excitement. The Bernie cult was the creation of former Obama people who had been shut out by Hillary Clinton. They had originally banked on Elizabeth Warren, but she had refused to run in 2016. It was easier to build up Bernie when the only other game in town was the thrill-a-minute ride that was Hillary Clinton, and a handful of sleepy and inept rivals.
Now there's too much going on. And Bernie's campaign lacks excitement and momentum. Much like its leader. In 2016, Bernie's shtick was novel. It isn't anymore. There's too much drama going on elsewhere and, aside from a speech defending socialism, he's got nothing in the way of friction.

Biden will, because most Democrats correctly think he’ll be the strongest against Trump. Sanders may lead the rest of the pack.
The commie bum is SUCH a misinformed lunatic and life-loser . I laugh at his failure as a human . What an oaf.
Yet this loser is the only one on the RAT side who can draw crowds.
He may be an oaf, but he’s a rich oaf.
It’s just amazing that drek like this guy is even on the political radar of any serious percentage of Americans.
Sanders is a socialist trying to run under the Democratic party label. Every other Democratic candidate really is a member of the party. There won't be a "anyone but Sanders" movement among Democrats, but I expect a "not Sanders" movement to find a actual Democrat to carry the banner.
The current socialite socialists like Ocasio-Cortez and the other Justice Democrats aren't doing Sanders any favors either. Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar act like they are in office for their own ambitions more than to serve the public. That could carry over to hurt Sanders.
Bernie was always howling about jobs. “Everyone deserved good paying jobs..” blah blah. Well, now everyone has good paying jobs so he can’t whine about it anymore. He also has never been able to say how he is going to pay for any of his hair brained ideas.
I never really knew much about bernie- but after lsitenign to him a few times- he’s a grumpy old feller- kinda nasty- hateful- the left portray him as likeable ‘uncle bernie’- but dang he’s a nasty angry bitter person-
He can go back to honeymooning in Moscow.
The Guardian, for example, titles her an “intellectual powerhouse” and another headline says Trump is afraid of her.
