PITTSBURGH In his first official event as a 2020 presidential candidate, Joe Biden skipped past the primary on Monday and went right to the general election.
From the atmospherics of his first campaign rally to the substance of his speech, the former vice president delivered a carefully calibrated message: While his rivals are chasing the Democratic nomination, Biden plans to pursue a mission focused on Donald Trump.
If Im going to be able to beat Donald Trump in 2020, its going to happen here, Biden told a packed crowd at the Teamsters Local 249 banquet hall.
Biden offered an economic message tailored for western Pennsylvania, where he praised organized labor and denigrated Wall Street CEOs and companies that used the Trump tax cuts to buy back stocks while laying off workers. He singled out the president by name, and at other times made implicit references that left no question about whom he was talking about.
Donald Trump is the only president who has decided not to represent the entire country. We need a president who will work for all Americans, Biden said, standing in front of a sign that read Biden Works for America.

He actually wants to repeal the tax break that gives a surviving spouse a stepped up basis on their house, IOW when your husband dies and you have to sell the house you currently don’t pay tax on all the increased value. Biden would end that, would be a disaster for families. Why would anyone propose such a thing in their opening speech?
Biden callously referred to this as a stupid rule that benefits your family “when you get hit by a truck or something”. Incredible from a guy whose wife literally died in a truck accident.

That was the most boring rally Ive ever seen. He took credit for the things Trump has done, tried to copy his forgotten man points, no way is this guy going up against Trump unless the entire dem establishment gets behind him.

And I think most were paid or forced to be there. They looked listless and distracted. He is not exactly a galvanizing speaker. *Yawn*

Good grief. Did he call that a tax break for the rich? Does he realize “working families” buy houses too?

His references to himself as “Joey” (at 76 years old) is worthy of multiple Trump Tweets.
