They don’t get it. Trump is the tool of a movement. Trump succeeds as long as he represents the concerns, and values, of that populist/ nationalist movement.
Trump is the face of the moment, not the cause of that movement. The Democrats, and their failed medias stooges, continuing failure to understand that is why nothing they try against Trump will succeed.
Well put, very well put. That is one of the smartest things I have read on FR, and FR has some pretty smart things on it.
Trump is the movement. Hes given America a few years. After Trump its over. Some will do nothing and exist, others will do something and be killed.
I agree with you and might go a step farther. He represents Republicans who are sick of the status quo, too.
Both party establishments had “insurgents” who railed against the “bosses”. And the GOP-e had picked our candidates in 1968, 1972, 1976, 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012.
I would say the DC Beltway Republicans DID NOT want our 1964, 1980 (and by extension 1984) or 2016 nominees.
Yet here we are. DJT won, and now they have to at least show some fealty to him. (McInsane, Flake and a few others aside.)
The stronger our party gains majorities in the House and Senate in this mid-term will go a long long way in making the Republicans LESS “beltway” and more “American”. Who knows what’ll happen after Trump leaves in January of 2025?
Fix it now. We’ll worry about later later.
