Letter: Straight talk about Trump vote
The Fayetteville Observer ^ | June 30, 2018 | Gerard Keogh

Posted on 06/30/2018 1:47:48 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Kudos to Mary Zahran (“Are Trump haters really Trump helpers?” June 24) for her fortitude in broaching what seems to be a verboten subject. But I will go further than she does. I voted for Trump. I readily concede his tactless manner, his ego, his vulgarity. But I was not voting for that woman of a thousand excuses why she lost under any circumstances. If you are irate or enraged by this statement, then 2020 gives you an ample opportunity to banish Trump back to Trump Tower.

I am not a white supremacist. I am not a Nazi. Regarding all those pious priests, ministers and commentators who too quickly pronounce me as one on television, I respond with this: The Eighth Commandment condemns the sins of slander and calumny without incontrovertible proof. In fact, in Catholic school, I was taught that such sins proclaimed loudly and incessantly in public qualify as mortal sins. Christ himself refers to these sins and lying in general as emanating directly from the devil. So we can include this in any discussion about any alleged hypocrites in the Christian religion, yet no one is going to limit my public access or my private right to my own opinions by surrounding me and screeching profanities from unruly gatherings that evoke the French Revolution. I will not be intimidated or laid a hand on. Anger/rage (which is still one of the original Seven Deadly Sins) will find a poor choice of a victim here.

Well stated. I did not vote for Trump in our State’s primary but, despite lingering doubts about whether he would turn his colors once he achieved office, there was no way that harridan fraud could be allowed anywhere near the levers of power. Have never been so glad to have been so wrong about anyone as I was about Donald Trump.

Trump is indeed wants to “Make America Great Again” — that is his sincere, only goal.

Don’t buy all the Trump-haters’ propaganda.

I would have voted for George Wallace or Adlai Stevenson before I’d vote for Hillary.

Great letter. I spent the largest part of my life in construction so nothing President Trump say or does shocks or offends me. I enjoy watching the cosseted class screeching and clutching their pearls at every comment or move. I get a kick out of watching how far he is ahead of everyone around him, by the time they figure out what’s going on the win is in the bag.

This is the most entertaining president ever!

#METOO. ABH (Anyone but her), was my starting position.

The problem with the Trump on campaign was his manner. The promises sounded nice, but who can believe any politician? But, things have turned out far better than I had dared hope.

Trump is the first President in many, many years to flat-out make good on his promises. He’s great! MAGA!

They don’t get it. Trump is the tool of a movement. Trump succeeds as long as he represents the concerns, and values, of that populist/ nationalist movement.

Trump is the face of the moment, not the cause of that movement. The Democrats, and their failed medias stooges, continuing failure to understand that is why nothing they try against Trump will succeed.

Compared to the mealy mouthed falsehoods we’re been fed on since Reagan left office, I found Trump’s take-no-prisoners style refreshing pretty much from the outset.

If anything, he’s too easy on the traitors and criminals infesting Washington.

However, the thing that has made me a hardcore Trumpster is that I’ve never seen an elected official work so hard to keep his campaign promises.

Trump is a man of his word. And keeping the promises you make is an entire code of ethics in itself. It took me the better part of 60 years to learn this, but I’ve seen too many people — both in and out of public life — who have been all take and no action.

It was my brother who pointed out that Trump was going to win, when there were 17 candidates. I was not a fan. Never liked Trump at any point in his life. I hate the Apprentice. I did not like his public divorces. Or his fights with Rosie. I thought he was a cad, an egomaniac, a publicity hound. And in truth I still believe that. So any thing he says does not surprise me.

But what changed my mind was his fight, and the inability to separate him from his money (something that the press is very good at doing to republicans). Trump can beat the elites because he is not trying to be elite, or socially pure. He simply runs with the simple message, “I can do a better job than anyone else”. And before our primary came around in March I decided that while I agree with Cruz and Walker, only Trump can beat the lying press and the crooked RNC. So I voted for Trump.

After that I have only been positively surprised by Trump. He sticks to his themes, the wall, fair trade, fake news, jobs in America. And the more he fights for these things the more you can see that the press and the democrats and the rinos are all liars who just talked about conservatism or jobs but don’t actually do anything to change things. Trump fights for the things he ran on. And the forces of evil have revealed themselves to fight back.

Each sentence carefully crafted to be longer or shorter than 14 words. Obviously trying to conceal his true leanings.

Really? Consider your source. The chances they have ANY insight into US politics is zero.

There is utterly no chance of the GOP dumping Trump. It not anywhere in the works. That there are this handful of going no where bitter ender in the Never Trumper movement, lead by Bill Kristol who are spewing this vomit is meaningless. They have zero power or influence in the party. They could not stop him in 2016 they have exactly ZERO chance of stopping him now he has has so much success as President.

I didn’t think Trump had a chance when I voted for him in the primary. But everyone else was playing the usual Republican wimp game and he was at least willing to stick his thumb in the eye of the mainstream folks. I hoped, at best, for some good entertainment before Jeb took a dive and Hillary was crowned (the reward for Jeb, of course, would have been that his son, King George III, would have been crowned 8 years later.)

Well put, very well put. That is one of the smartest things I have read on FR, and FR has some pretty smart things on it.

I think that the author is right in one important aspect: Trump is the face of the Movement. Trump was created by the Movement. Trump is not the Movement.

First, I think that we hired Donald Trump precisely because he was so bombastic, so ‘in-your-face’ in his personality that he was finally saying back to the Democrats what we had been thinking for most of our lifetimes. And in a way that is unambiguous and perfectly clear to those that have their ears and their mind open.

Second, Every time Chuck and Nancy, Maher or DeNiro, or any other of the screeching class spout off about some perceived triggering that PDJT has inflicted on them, it reinforces the sense that we made the right choice in 2016. Trump is doing exactly what we elected him to do.

I’d like to examine the daily speech of these people - supporters or not - whose criticism of Trump includes “vulgarity”. Has no one ever read Obama’s book or reports of how Hillary talks when she’s not being recorded? Wasn’t it Bill Clinton who said he and his pal Vernon Jordan “talked about p*ssy” when out on the golf course, and then used an intern as a humidor.

Yet it’s Trump who their opinions always have to be qualified about.
