Anecdotal stories about disillusioned supporters of Donald Trump are overdone. The fact is that, on a broad scale, Trump supporters say they aren't disappointed. In fact, a poll showed they were more pleased than disappointed, by about 5 to 1:
"...The Pew Research Center released a poll showing very little buyer's remorse among Trump voters. The poll showed just 7% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents say Trump has performed worse than they expected him to. Fully 38% - five times as many - say he has performed better."
A new Washington Post-ABC News poll confirms this - in spades. And, in fact, it shows more buyer's remorse for Trump's opponent in the 2016 election, Hillary Clinton. And were the 2016 election held again today, it shows Trump would avenge his popular-vote loss.
While just 4% of Trump's supporters say they would back someone else if there was a redo of the election, fully 15% of Clinton supporters say they would ditch her. Trump leads in a re-do of the 2016 election 43% to 40% after losing the popular vote 46-44.
That 15% is split between those who say they would vote for Trump (2%), Gary Johnson (4%), Jill Stein (2%), and either other candidates or not vote (7%).
It's not hugely surprising that the losing candidate in an election would see this kind of drop-off. People don't like voting for losers, and if you look closely at polls after an election, some voters won't even admit to having cast their ballots for the losing candidate. The winning margin for the victor is generally exaggerated.
But against the backdrop of stories about how Trump hasn't delivered what his supporters thought he would, it's notable how much his backers are sticking by their candidate, relative to his opponent....

For me, Trump was the best bet given the choices. He’s not perfect but it is hard to imagine him doing something so bad that I would wish I had voted for Clinton. So, even if I disagree with Trump on some issues ... still the best choice.
Hillary not winning was the most important thing.
Just about every day, I read another report about an eruption from the totalitarian left, and I am freshly grateful that they lost, this time. Imagine if she had won. Or, if you want to sleep better, don’t.
Maybe a small number do (the people who want a more non-interventionist foreign policy), but their number is minimal.
I want more non-interventionist foreign policy, but I do not regret voting for Trump. Clinton would have been far worse on that score (not to mention everything else).
I thought Trump was the best of America, authentic to a fault, and I was grateful to God for him.
To see a man and not a boy, a patriot and not a political climber, a street smart PRODUCER and not some poli-speak academic selling snake oil and red meat to the rubes was jaw dropping.
I thought men like this were long relegated to the history book heroes and no longer existed in girly, cowardly, spinning and spiralling America.
If it weren’t for the jealousy and rage of Paul Ryan and the Republican Establishment giving the Trump agenda the silent treatment and sitting on their hands, we would already be hearing the engine of America revving up for take off.
Courage to seek merit and not rigging the system for petpetual slickness is so refreshing.
I admire the man, and believe he is the.last.hope. for the USA, and pray his enemies are made mute and bound.
Do I like Ivanka and Jared. Not so much. They are so totally untested and worldly, and haven’t his heart.
Okay.... I voted for Ted Cruz in the primary, but voted for Trump in the general election (In Massachusetts, 20,000 Democrats switched registration to vote for Donald Trump as they thought Hillary would beat him). I hope Hillary gets hers. How this brain damaged, powerlusting big itch could waste our time with her disgusting quest to loot all of America as President is beyond me. She was too brain damaged to run.
I am not completely comfortable with Trump, but I am completely comfortable with the fact that I voted for him.
Four or more years of Hillary following the eight years of Obama would have been disastrous for this country.
B+
If the race was run today Trump would win AND he would take the popular vote too. “Inside every progressive is a totalitarian screaming to get out...” Don’t forget - democrats are thugs.
They should have voted for Bernie.
Oh, wait, Hillary rigged the primaries! LOLOL
Suckerfish!
It all boils down to the fact that Hitlery will not be replacing any members of the Supreme Court or other federal judges. That alone is enough that I would never be able to regret voting for Trump.
That’s how I look at it too.
There was no way I wanted Hillary in office, especially after the way she bungled the State Department and disregard for security.
Even if Trump screws up royally I won’t regret my vote. He was the better bet than Hillary.
So, if reporters hear people like me criticize Trump and conclude that I ‘regret my vote’ they will be dead wrong (but then they are always dead wrong).
I won’t ever forget that.
I know too many of them personally.
They would not hesitate to line people up against a wall to be shot at the first opportunity.
I can count the honest non-totalitarian inclined ‘progressives’ I know on one hand. The rest all employ situational ethics ... at best.
Polls say 2 percent of Trump voters regret voting for him.
The percentage of Hillary voters who regret it is much higher.
