Poll: Trump controversies make him more popular among supporters
The Hill ^ | March 23, 2017 | Olivia Beavers

Some of President Trump's supporters expressed a more favorable view of him following a number of recent controversies surrounding his administration, according to an online poll released Thursday.

In a handful of cases, while most registered voters expressed a negative view of Trump after the controversies, a plurality of Trump voters felt more favorably toward him, according to the Politico/Morning Consult poll.

Nearly 20 percent of respondents said the polled controversies did not change their opinions of the president.

Some of the controversies in the poll include the resignation of Trump's first national security adviser Michael Flynn last month, Attorney General Jeff Sessions' recusal from investigations into Russian intervention in the election and claims from Trump and his top spokesman about the size of crowds at his inauguration in January.

Trump's tweet accusing media of being "the enemy of the American people" and his baseless claim on Twitter early this month that former President Barack Obama wiretapped Trump Tower were two controversies his supporters liked most, according to the poll.

His net favorability among supporters increased 31 points following his media attack, while it fell 15 points among registered voters in general.

Similarly, Trump saw a 21-point boost in favorability among supporters over his wiretapping claim, though his favorability among registered voters overall fell 20 points.

Trump voters expressed less favorable opinions about him – in the single digits – following two controversies.

His favorability among all registered voters dropped a whopping 27 points when asked about him allegedly discussing classified information related to North Korea's nuclear developments at his Mar-a-Lago club, a non-secure area. Trump's net favorability among supporters only increased by 2 points.

The president's favorability among all registered voters also plummeted 23 points on the question of senior White House counselor Kellyanne Conway publicly promoting Ivanka Trump’s fashion brand on television, while it increased among supporters by 9 points.

Trump has faced overall low approval ratings since taking office. Just 37 percent approve of the job he is doing, compared to 56 percent who disapprove, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday.

The national Morning Consult poll of 1,927 registered voters was conducted March 16–19 online and has a margin of error of 2 points.

I have been behind Trump since September of 2015.
I have been mostly happy with his job performance since he assumed office.
However, I am not going to follow lockstep when he’s wrong.
Ryancare is not repeal, it’s rearranging Obamacare.
I’m glad my Congressman Dave Brat has stuck to what we elected him to do, oppose Big Government.
I will not support the continuation of DACA, Obama’s illegal program to legalize illegal aliens.
If Trump continues DACA, it will become Trump’s illegal program. It does not become legal or Constitutional just because Trump keeps it going.

This is 100% right on.

For over one entire generation the ENTIRE GOP has been silent, sitting on the sidelines while the entire left has tossed aspersion after insult, in their direction.

The media was 100% complicit, and on the side of the liberals. Everyone was silenced.

It was DISGUSTING.

That is why. Trump is our guy. The more they insult him, the stronger he will become.

Trump 2020

and his baseless claim on Twitter early this month that former President Barack Obama wiretapped Trump Tower...

Well at least the article isn’t biased :)

“Trump’s tweet accusing media of being “the enemy of the American people” and his baseless claim on Twitter early this month that former President Barack Obama wiretapped Trump Tower were two controversies his supporters liked most, according to the poll.”

Nope. No bias there.

The media is 100% liberals. People are fed up, and Trump is the first guy who actually stood up, and is saying the things which are so very obvious to everyone, with even one small clue.

It has been far, far too long, we have had addle-brained weenies running this party.

Wow it is great, to finally have someone on our side, who gets it.

Now I don’t remember what he said during the campaign.

Was he planning on replacing it immediately or was he for repealing it and then taking some time to come up with something new.

I’m personally for repealing and not replacing it.

Healthcare ain’t in the constitution.

“That CRUEL. You’re heartless”

Well I’ve put off two procedures because my copay went from nothing to 20 percent.

I’ll be financially prepared in a few more months to get them done.

Life’s tough all over.

It is great.

But the percentage of media that is left is 93 percent. Let’s be fair :)

How can a group that is supposed to be impartial basically be 100 percent on one side?

Did conservatives forget to buy a TV station or a Hollywood production company?

I’m right there with you, I supported Trump even before he announced.

But unlike you, I support the stand he is taking.

He has always said, there were things in Obamacare which need to be preserved.

I agree 100%. The level of noise on this particular website about healthcare, is just on one side. The owner himself has come out strongly on the side you are supporting. FR is very much on one side.

I am just saying. There are tens of millions of Americans, who our medical system did not cover before.

That is inexcusable.

We have the finest medical care system in the world. But it is also the most expensive, and getting more expensive every single day.

Obamacare was created because far too many Americans were not covered.

That was good, in my opinion.

Again I applaud you for being a long-time Trump supporter. I am also.

But he is saying, we need to keep what is good about Obamacare, and replace the rest for everyone else.

I agree with Trump. 100%.

I am so very glad, we finally elected someone who gets things.

I had a “Cadillac plan” which the company was forced to drop because of Obamacare. My share of the premium went from $200 a month to $900 a month for a worse plan.
I will never get that back, but I am for complete repeal.

Most of the 30 million who did not have coverage were illegal aliens, which Ryancare will cover.
Despite Obama’s lying about it, that is who Obamacare was meant to help.

Are you happy that Trump is continuing to legalize illegal aliens under DACA as if it were law and not something that Obama dreamed up?

I don’t agree.

However, I will not continue my point. I very much like this website (it is practically my only website I go to all of the time)

I do not want to p$ss off Jim Thompson. I respect your views. I respect his views.

I will be quiet now. I said what I believe. Just saying, I think Donald Trump is a very, very good president.

Thank goodness, we actually elected the guy.

Wow.

Trump was correct on both counts, so yea, I'm with him.

Obamacare was created because far too many Americans were not covered.

That was good, in my opinion.

I had intestinal surgery a few years ago. I didn't have insurance and had to do the wole thing for cash. The first quote I got was $23K, just for the hospital part. I had to postpone the surgery for 6 months while I investigated and negotiated with doctors and hospitals. By the end of the whole process I was able to do the surgery for about 5 grand all in.

A year later, my dog swallowed a rock and had to have basically the same proceedure. It cost $700 and took 24 hours from diagnosis to discharge.

Medical costs in the US are out of control only because the government is involved. If the governmet did nothing, no medicaid, no medicare, no Obamacare, no regulation, no taxes, treatment would be 1/10 of what it is now.

I took a little spin around the blogosphere tonight and you would be very surprised to know how the whole “Obama administration wiretapped Trump” is playing out.

Instapundit had 4 different postings with links to stories about House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Devin Nunes and the Rosen story at Fox News. One of the links is to Althouse, who does a devastating takedown of the NY Times ..
http://althouse.blogspot.com/2017/03/the-nyt-struggles-to-fight-off-trumps.html

I recommend you spend a few minutes reading her post and then read the comments that follow....and remember Althouse is a liberal professor at a Madison, WI college.

Trump is winning the narrative war because the truth is burning through!! If there was a pole, with real factual breakdowns of Americans that asked the simple question....”Do you think the Obama Administration eavesdropped on Team Trump”, i’m guessing that you would get a majority that say YES!!

Government control and regulation is the reason healthcare and many other products cost so much. People would even work more or go get a job if they actually thought it would help.
