Republican support for Donald Trump is at an all-time high, with GOP voters now just as unified behind Trump as Democrats are behind Hillary Clinton, according to the HuffPost Pollster polling average.
Polls have shown a tightening race in recent weeks, leaving Democrats on edge and concerned that Clinton is losing the comfortable lead she held over the summer.
Theres data to back up Democrats hand-wringing. Republican voters who had previously withheld their support for Trump have come around recently. Trump has managed to gain 6 percentage points among Republicans since mid-August, and hes on an upward trend, according to the HuffPost Pollster chart.
This increased support could be due in part to the fact that Americans have been reading and hearing less about Trump in the news over the past few weeks, according to a Gallup poll. University of Virginia political scientists Larry Sabato, Kyle Kondik and Geoffrey Skelley have found empirical evidence to suggest a relationship between media coverage and voter support...

Trump is killing her with independents. He should tie or outperform Hillary as far as party support. If the Republicans can turnout representative of primary enthusiasm he’s going to wipe the floor with her. I’d expect a 7-8 point win.
“Republican support for Donald Trump is at an all-time high”
It’s about time and hope it continues through election day.
Thing is, they still haven’t taken into account, or maybe haven’t figured out how to, the number of people who won’t say so to anyone, but will vote for Trump. Closet voters I”m calling them.
Judging by what we saw in the primaries, Trump generally did at least 5 points better than the polls showed. Better in some cases.
It’s been looking like a win for the past couple of weeks, now we’re seeing Trump rallies with packed stadiums and Hillary rallies that look like jokes with maybe 200...put that together with closet voters and I think he’s homing in on LANDSLIDE...
Dear Washington,
America is coming,
and they’re bringing Donald J Trump.
And I think that George HW’s latest slobber does nothing but help our unity.
I used to guard him when he was running for president.
Great slogan. Here's a sign:
CHOICES:
Hilary -- the establishment's choice
MR. TRUMP -- The People's Choice
What are your thoughts as to his apparent position on this election?
So what they are saying is that the more a candidate is seen, the less they are liked. Sabato and his liberal friends don't realize that ONLY applies to Illary, because she is such a dreadful candidate, and every time she is seen or heard, it reminds people how much they hate her.
Senile.
A good friend of mine from when I lived in Iowa is one of the people who runs his library.
That's amazing. I suppose my musings were too disrespectful?
Sorry.
But between him and Barbara supporting the Clintons and flushing Sarah Palin down the toilet, I have long since seen his reputation and historical value to conservatism tarnished beyond repair.
I never said that. I was working on the Haig campaign during the day and guarding Bush and is plane during my night shift.
Ah. Well, you were up in the American stratosphere, for sure. Some moments to be proud of. Ooh-rah!
Actually, being the early-warning intelligence analyst for the Korean DMZ is what I consider the highlight of my working life.
First time Presidents rarely capture more than 50-52 percent of the vote. Even Reagan in his first election barely topped 50.00
- Reagan received 50.7 to Carter’s 41. That right there is almost a 10-point spread with less than 51%. Additionally, if not for Anderson’s hit job, RWR would’ve probably had somewhere around 55.
- It’s a 4-person race, Trump can have a 7-8 point win with only 50-52%. I’m just doing a back of the envelope calculation. If Indies make up 40% of the electorate and he wins them with a 20+ point spread, Dems turn out 1-2 points higher than Republicans, and Trump pulls more Dem voters (black vote?) than Hillary pulls R votes, the math should have him in the 7-8 point victory range.
I don’t remember or know much about Haig. Would he have been a worthy successor to Reagan? We’re his principles more in line with Reagan than Bush?
He was Reagan’s first Secretary of State.
