Cruz, Trump Each Claim Two Victories, Call for Rubio to Drop Out
Slate ^ | March 5, 2016 | Daniel Politi

Update: It's a two for two in the Republican race, with Ted Cruz and Donald Trump splitting up the four states that were up for grabs on Saturday. The split result made it clear that the GOP race is far from over. Cruz won big in Kansas, with 48 percent of the vote, and Maine, with 46 percent, while Trump got the votes in Louisiana and Kentucky. Trump's victories were both closer than expected, particularly in Louisiana, where he won 42 percent to Cruz's 37 percent.

The big loser of the night was undoubtedly Marco Rubio, who even came in an embarrassing fourth place in Maine.

Both Cruz and Trump called on Rubio to drop out of the race. "I want Ted, one on one" Trump said.

At the end of the night, Trump had 373 delegates to Cruz's 291. Rubio is in third place with 122 delegates, according to the New York Times.

Update at 9:50 p.m.: Donald Trump won the only primary of "Super Saturday," ending first in Louisiana. With only 11 percent of precincts reporting, Trump had 47 percent of the vote, far ahead of Ted Cruz's 26 percent. Trump is also ahead in Kentucky but the race hasn't been called yet....

Wow! Clearly, Kasich is the only one that can beat Hillary. (Do I need a sarcasm tag?)

If Cruz beats Trump, he is a shoo-in. He already beat the most popular Democrat in the race.

he could lose one on one. the polls favor Ted big in that scenario.

and i admire Trump for knowing that is possible and not caring.

that takes courage.

Two fighters. What a great thing to see in forever number of years.

each has their flaws. Each is a 1000x better then Hillary r sanders or McCain or Romney or Obama and on and on

Cruz guy here.

Little Marco proved his degeneracy, so he can sit down and shut up now. That boy needs to get over his obsession with The Donald’s genitalia.

Poor Amnesty Marco. He was riding high on tea party support and the sky was the limit, but he traded it all to cozy up to Schumer, McCain, and Graham. I hope he Reminisces late in life what he could have accomplished if he had been honest.

Very nice dp0622! Do you think the establishment handlers will let either of the two losers drop out?

Midget Rubio needs to end his campaign tonight! He is such a bad news politician. Rubio needs to go sit beside jeb and they can catch frogs together.

no :(

It would be a HUGE sigh of relief to me at least, to know that only Trump or Cruz can win.

CNN is reporting the results as two wins and two ties for Cruz. What happened to all those polls that showed Trump leading by 20 in every state, when he won LA by 5 and KY by 3? Obviously, the polls can’t be trusted.

I’m loving it. If only we could get the BLM wackos to keep getting riled up, bring out the Unions and assorted socialists, we could have a hell of a convention. Let them see we are not going to pussyfoot around with them and we’ll leave a mark.

I’m still agnostic. I just want to see some skin in the game from all the politicians who’ve been sucking us dry. And I want to see Hillary in jail, where she belongs and watch those morons on the left scramble when they see this doddering old fool of a socialist in a real cage match.

From a true conservative point of view, this is awesome. GOPe is shutout. Now it is just a question of which flavor of conservative, fiscal or social. Both view AGW as a scam and both view the DC establishment as a Cartel. We could hardly have hoped for such a good situation one year ago. Thank you voters in the early states !

With 11 left unaccounted for in Louisiana, Green Papers has:

Trump 391 31.6% 5 + perhaps 1 more majority states
Cruz 304 24.6% 3 majority states
Rubio 127 10.3%
Kasich 35 2.8%

The percentage is that of how many delegates they need to clinch. 35.7% of all the delegates will be allocated when they finish counting Louisiana. I will update my tag line at that point.

I know who I’m voting for in the PA primary at the end of April. This is the only thing I can control in this whole process. I’m not going to change my mind in the primary and I’m not going to allow myself to be influenced by Romney or anyone else on this board. And no matter who wins in November, my world will not fall apart.

If :
1) Rubi supporters are not Trump fans, and we could expect them to therefore eventually move to Cruz and 2) it’s unlikely Rubio drops until right AFTER a Florida loss
then:
Cruz can now make a credible case that Florida Rubio voters are wasting votes if they stick with Marco... likely giving a huge Florida win to the one they hate.

And perhaps Kasich can deny Donald the Ohio motherlode. With current trends holding, (Donald underperforming) suddenly Trump doesn’t have very many delegates won.

This from one who feels more confident with Cruz, but who would support either.
