Cruz wins Madison Co. Republican Men's straw poll (Alabama)
WAFF-TV ^ | February 20, 2016 | Staff

Club straw poll was conducted Saturday, with Ted Cruz declared the front-runner.

Poll officials said 200 people cast their vote at the monthly meeting. Cruz received 29.5 percent of the club's votes, with Donald Trump in second place with 27 percent.

The ballot contained the names of all the Republican candidates who qualified to run in Alabama, although some have since suspended their campaigns.

The outcome Saturday is slightly different than the national polls that place Trump ahead of Cruz.

The full results of the straw poll are as follows:

* Ted Cruz - 29.5 percent (59 votes)
* Donald Trump - 27 percent (54 votes)
* Marco Rubio - 14.5 percent ( 29 votes)
* Ben Carson - 11.5 percent (23 votes)
* John Kasich - 8 percent (16 votes)
* Jeb Bush - 5 percent (10 votes)
* Uncommitted - 3.5 percent (7 votes)
* Chris Christie - 0.5 percent (1 vote)
* Carly Fiorina - 0.5 percent (1 vote)

Alabama's primary elections are Tuesday, March 1.

Wow. Congratulations on finding a poll that shows Donald Trump not in first place.

That’s a rare gem.

Only 11.3% of precincts reporting? Doesn’t sound like a final total to me.

It’s all based on exit polls.
Which typically are pretty accurate.

Thanks for the results. We had our own straw poll in Muscogee County, Georgia, during our meeting to select delegates for the county convention. If memory serves:

Cruz            39 votes 60%
Trump            9 votes 14%
Carson           6 votes  9%
Rubio            6 votes  9%
Kasich           2 votes  3%
John Ellis Bush  1 vote   1.5%
Undecided        1 vote   1.5%

Trump will find it harder in states that actually vote republican/conservative, than in states that let liberals and democrats vote in republican primary.

I'm a Cruzer, but Trump has the quality of showing pretty uniform strength in all segments. When there's a big comeback, it is usually because some big city with a different demographic is slow (or holding back) vote totals.

Congratulations on a solid win, Trumpsters. On to Nevada and SEC Tuesday.
