I have been studying health care policy for 20 years now. I am also a multi-state licensed health insurance broker who continues to operate in an increasingly less competitive and more bureaucratically controlled system on both the federal and state level. During the last 20 years I have seen a lot of changes in the U.S. health care system. Some of them good (HIPAA) and some bad (Reaganâs EMTALA) the PPACA a.k.a. âObamacareâ etc.
During the last two decades I have read everything I could get my hands on pertaining to health care policy. I also spent the longest two weeks of my entire life reading the PPACA â Patient Protection & Affordable Care Act â shortly after it was passed into law on March 23, 2010. I have also appeared on television, radio and written expert commentary on health care policy on this blog and for professional business journals around the country. If there is one thing I know it is health care policy and if there is another thing I know it is a lie when I hear it.
I have bit my tongue long enough. As a delegate for Senator Ted Cruz I have been placed into a difficult and increasingly uncomfortable position and now I have had enough! Continuing to support Senator Cruz after he repeats incorrectly and ad nauseum that âA vote for Donald Trump is a vote for Obamacareâ and, that âif you vote Donald Trump, you vote for Bernie Sanders-style socialized medicine.â Or even worse that Trump, Clinton and Sanders âhave the identical position on health careâ has forced me into a crisis of conscience. These are statements that even the left leaning Politifact has correctly identified as FALSE.

Cruz lies again, showcasing his only talent.
Except, he want to replace it with TrumpCare. With the government paying for it, of course.
"What’s your plan for Obamacare?" Pelley asked Trump. "Obamacare’s going to be repealed and replaced," said Trump. "Obamacare is a disaster if you look at what’s going on with premiums where they’re up 40, 50, 55 percent." Pelley followed up:
Pelley: How do you fix it?
Trump: There’s many different ways, by the way. Everybody’s got to be covered. This is an un-Republican thing for me to say because a lot of times they say, "No, no, the lower 25 percent that can’t afford private. But–"
Pelley: Universal health care.
Trump: I am going to take care of everybody. I don’t care if it costs me votes or not. Everybody’s going to be taken care of much better than they’re taken care of now.
Pelley: The uninsured person is going to be taken care of. How? How?
Trump: They’re going to be taken care of. I would make a deal with existing hospitals to take care of people. And, you know what, if this is probably—
Pelley: Make a deal? Who pays for it?
Trump: —the government’s gonna pay for it. But we’re going to save so much money on the other side. But for the most it’s going to be a private plan and people are going to be able to go out and negotiate great plans with lots of different competition with lots of competitors with great companies and they can have their doctors, they can have plans, they can have everything.
Repeat for Emphasis.....
NONSENSE!
I have it on good authority from some FReepers here on that Donald Trump wants complete UK-style single payer!!!!!!
Someone check for a large deposit into a bank account over seas...
A rose by any other name...
No. Donald promises to repeal Obamacare and replace it with something great. Whatever the hell that means.
I am sure that Cruz, being the sinless person he is made out to be and cleansed by his consistent conservatism, will immediately apologize to Trump and run ads correcting his lies.
And Rush Limbaugh, who has been casting red flags of deception around Trump over this issue, will immediately spend the like amount of time on his show correcting his lies.
I’m holding my breath.
You either did not read the article or you love to lie.
Use your money Donald, not mine.
Read the article?
Don’t be an ass. I posted - word for word Trump’s actual reply.
Well if a blog says is then it must be true!

Even before Obamacare the government was paying for the healthcare of many Americans.
So in that respect there is nothing different with regards to that statement. The devil is in the details. If the details are not good the American citizen can voice concerns and Trump would listen, unlike many in power now do.
We really need to narrow down what the “it” is in this comment before we can justify getting our hair on fire about it.
This looks like picky point making, pursued because it is just so much easier to do that than to assemble all the details of various candidates’ (and incumbents’) proposals and standardize them.
The “it” in Obamacare’s case is a ghastly farce. It involves a lot of bureaucratic overhead. Part of the reason it costs so much, delivers so little, and is so hellishly difficult to follow, is all the drones, drones, drones it fuels. Fault Trump for much, even for buying into liberals’ ideas, but as a businessman he is allergic to excessive overhead.
If we have moved away from folly, we have made progress. Absolute wisdom is going to be elusive in this world. Getting nearer is a process of fits and starts. We need to be grateful for the grace of God that we get, before we are going to get more.
The problem for Trump is that he has not laid out a clear healthcare plan and then makes statement about covering everyone and the government paying for it.
So what does he mean by universal and govt run?
You carefully left out the part where Trump defines that the majority of American’s will be part of a private free market system with HSA’s. The charity portion for indigents is all that was being discussed in your partial quote.
Not carefully... carelessly.
We don’t have evil geniuses among the conservative set, so much as lazy geniuses.
Cruz lies again, showcasing his only talent.
