Why one political scientist thinks Donald Trump might actually win
Vox ^ | November 25, 2015 | Ezra Klein

In an exchange with Paul Krugman, political scientist Alan Abramowitz made one of the best cases I've heard for, as Krugman put it, "thinking the Trumpthinkable." At some point, Abramowitz argued, pundits need to admit that Trump has a good chance of winning the Republican presidential nomination.

But that remains a minority viewpoint. Nate Silver, for instance, published a piece arguing that analysts extrapolating forward from Trump's current (and impressively durable) poll lead are likely to be disappointed. So I called Abramowitz and asked him to walk me through his argument in more detail...

That may very well happen unless he gives in to his ego and goes 3rd party.

A lot of pundits are going to have to be laughed out of the business after President Trump takes office.

Except they will probably STILL be thinking he will be out in a week or two

I believe Trump “could actually win” because (1) he is a candidate, and (2) he is presently generating considerable enthusiasm and polling well.

Since no polls that matter (i.e., actual primaries) have been conducted, the above doesn’t mean a whole lot, but in my opinion, it means that believing he could win the nomination, and even the general election, is the obvious default position, rather than one held only by crazies.

That was an unusually sober piece from someone like Ezra Klein. It reinforces my expectation that 2016 could well be a year I either vote 3rd party or just stay home. As I have said repeatedly, there are no circumstances in which I can realistically see myself voting for Trump.

Trump is the only one I would consider for President. He is a man of action and has the better policy.

The problem with the media, political elites and other establishment types is that they live in a bubble. They mistakenly believe that everybody outside of that bubble thinks exactly the same way as they do. They are mistaken which is why I believe they are wrong about Trump’s chances.

Go, Trump! Go!

Unless you live in a swing state, it does not really matter who you vote your your state is already carried one way or the other.

BTW Thank you for your Hillary vote.

I will never understand people who are willing to let the “Horrible” happen because they won’t vote for the “Unacceptable”

Every time these GOPe, RINO’s; media, talking heads and others come out to discredit Trump on everything pertaining to him, it makes me so proud to have thrown my support behind him from the time he stood in the lobby of Trump Towers to announce his candidacy...and I was 100% behind him then, and I am 100% behind him now...

Trump is the only person who can take Trump out, Trump made Trump, Trump is an icon to the American People that have been walked on, lied to, used, thrown around, and he speaks with his supporters as if he's having coffee with us at our kitchen tables...

He's not ‘owned’ by anyone other than himself, and the American People, he doesn't have a ‘super pac’ he doesn't have ‘lobbyists’ he doesn't have ‘handlers’ that tell him what to do or say...he is owned only by the American People....and you can't get better than that!!!

GO TRUMP ALL THE WAY TO THE OVAL OFFICE!!!

Sorry. Trump is as conservative as a three dollar bill. The man is a political chameleon with a long track record of saying what he thinks people want to hear in order to get him what he wants. Beyond which he is temperamentally unsuitable for the presidency. The fact that so many on FR cannot see this is really quite disturbing.

Ezra Klein was the organizer of JournOlist, the outfit that was responsible for most of the savaging of Palin in 2008, and even afterwards. He put the group together in 2007/08 to essentially, organize bloggers and “reporters” into a support base for 0bama.

I wouldn’t trust much of anything he says, given his background.

I agree with you. That so many FReepers are Trump fanbois is disturbing. Especially when you compare him with, say, Ted Cruz.

...temperamentally unsuitable for the presidency...

Why is that? The fact that he very clearly loves America? The fact that he quite obviously won’t go along to get along? The fact that he is not owned by big money? The fact that he is not politically correct?

Why is he temperamentally unsuitable? Because you don’t like him?

This Eistien thinks Hispanics “despise” Trump! Trump is getting between 30 and 35% with Hispanics which is at or better than Romney got pandering to them and thus chasing away conservative. He is also mystified about why Rubio who is so well liked isn,t doing better
. One word AMNESTY but this dope doesn’t understand that.Right now Trump is in the cat bord seat because he represents the only hope 38 / 11.7 in Reuters is something they can’t explain so they ignore it.

What is disturbing is someone like you who must be able to see the catastrophe approaching us as Americans, yet who refuses to vote for the only individual strong enough and brave enough (and polling well enough) to win and actually fix things.

You are like a man dying of starvation who refuses to eat because the salad fork is on the wrong side of the plate.

You have principles, yes, but not a lick of sense.

You deserve to be ruled by rats, Muslims, commies, etc.

Personally I think Trump is the only guy whos election would truly shake washington to its core, and put the behind the scene power brokers who have been selling this nation down the tube for decades on the run.

Hillary wins, nothing structurally changes, the power brokers remain the power brokers... the backers remain the backers and the politicians dans the same dance they are told to.

GOPe or Cruz wins, pretty much the same outcome.

However if an outsider, a true outsider wins, it proves they don’t have the control they think they have, and we may actually get someone who gives a damn about America in power for a change.... I don’t see any other candidate possibly having that impact if elected other than Trump.

There seems to be some sort of disconnect between washington and the people, far more than I can recall in my 4+ decades on this planet. They really don’t seem to understand just how pissed the electorate is at them or why...

I can assure you if Rubio or Jeb is the nominee, or someone else viewed as establishment, Hillary wins as some of the parties most reliable voters stay home.

I am not a big Trump fan but if the choice was Hillary or Trump would vote for Trump. If it’s Hillary vs Bush I stay home.

How's that sort of thinking worked out in the past? We need someone other than who they 'select' for us. They're pushing us into a war in Syria and we don't even belong there. Now is not the time to use the same worn out ideas.
