Donald Trump isn’t playing by a different set of rules. He’s not playing by any rules.
The Washington Post's The Fix ^ | September 10, 2015 | Chris Cillizza

Imagine you are playing basketball and abiding by the generally accepted rules of the game: traveling, out of bounds, fouls, etc. Now imagine that the team you are playing against doesn't follow any of those rules. Also, there are no referees.

Or think of it like "Calvinball" — the "game" from the "Calvin and Hobbes" comic strip.

That should give you some sense of what it's like for the 16 Republican presidential candidates not named Donald Trump to run against the reality star/real-estate mogul. You can't win a fight with someone who isn't playing by the rules or doesn't, really, think there any rules — except the ones he makes up as he goes.

Look at the long succession of candidates who have tried to attack Trump and seen those hits rebound against them; Rick Perry and Rand Paul immediately jump to mind.

And, yet, three new attackers have stepped up to take a swing at Trump in recent days: Jeb Bush, Ben Carson and Bobby Jindal.

Bush's hits have been the most prolonged, attacking Trump as a chameleon who will say anything and do anything to get people to vote for him. In the wake of Trump's comments about fellow candidate Carly Fiorina's looks, Bush tweeted:

Jeb Bush
✔ ‎@JebBush

Trumps demeaning remarks are small and inappropriate
for anyone, much less a presidential candidate. Carly & country
deserve better. Enough

6:52 AM - 10 Sep 2015

Fair enough. But, if you are scoring at home (and I am), it's hard not to see Trump's responses — that Bush is "low-energy" — doing more damage to the former Florida governor than vice versa.....

And that is their problem. They expect him to play by their rules in a rigged game.

There’s always this thing, with me, of thinking “who cares what this little puke thinks....about anything?”

Jeb should’ve had a V8. He’s got no energy!

That’s called the Obama administration and if the Washington Compost is good with that, then they should love what Trump is doing.

Wasn’t it on Monty Python in the skit about Aussie Football (Footie) a line went something like ,”Rule 1..there are no rules” Rule 2..”There is no rule 2.” etc.

Jeb says “enough”. He wants things to go back to the way they used to be! There’s a shocker.

You mean like King James when he takes 5 or 6 steps to the basket? We only get righteous about this shit when it benefits us...let’s face it, there are no rules or respect for rules anymore. By anyone. People are just making shit up as they go along everywhere.

It sounds like Heb Bush thinks he is the authority on what a presidential candidate should or shouldn’t do.

Exactly. These media and so-called “election experts” are stupid little kids that have never had to produce anything in their life. They are merely social commentators that go to the same parties and are friends.

There’s even a name for that new rule: ‘fake it till we make it.’

Trump is a master of media.

He has now made this all about him and is now negotiating.

People now all know he may not show up.

75% of the audience at the first debate at Fox was for Trump. So now CNN has to decide whether they are willing to use 75% of its audience if they do not meet Trumps demands.

Trump is showing us all what he is like and how he makes deals. No other candidate democrat or Republican gets these kinds of results.

This is delicious.

DEMs never play by the rules but have all the artificial sacred cows the right cant or shouldnt touch. Donald has blown that out of the water on both sides. People are sick of politicians and the DC idiots still dont get it.

Nope, he is playing by his rules, you see he isn't a politician, he can play the game anyway he wants to, he isn't supported by any handlers or super pac, he only answers to those who support him...

He is doing the job that 15 candidates can't do, and he's winning BIG....

WOOHOO Trump!!!

Oh, they get it, they just have so many apparatchiks and lying pollsters telling them to un-get it that they ignore that their house is afire. I personally hope they *never* get it and wander around aimlessly by the millions in DC alleys - like Eric Cantor - STILL never getting it.

Maybe there IS something in the DC water, the GOPe has seemed honestly puzzled by the TEA party, midterms 2010 and 2014, and Donald Trump. At least the RATS are able to ID and comprehend those who would obliterate them from politics and power.
