Survey: Oregon Voters Prefer Clinton, Trump

A new survey released Thursday finds that a slim majority of Oregon Republicans favor Donald Trump for the 2016 GOP presidential primary nomination. Meanwhile, Oregon Democrats put their support behind former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, though by a slim margin.

DHM Research in Portland surveyed 536 Oregonians online July 22-27 about their opinions on the primary candidates.

Republican respondents to the poll were asked which GOP candidate they preferred to receive the party nomination. Eighteen percent surveyed supported Trump, followed by 12 percent for Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, 11 percent for former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, and 10 percent for Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.

Despite Trump’s lead among the Republicans, a majority of those surveyed — 38 percent — said they think Bush is most likely to receive the GOP nomination. Only 12 percent said they think Trump will win the nomination. The Republican-only segment of the poll had a 7.7 margin of error.

Clinton, who visited Oregon this week for a fundraising event, leads the other Democratic candidates with 44 percent support among Democratic voters. But Oregonians in the party also gave strong support to Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, at 39 percent. The Democrat-only sample had a 6.9 percent margin of error.

The former Secretary of State polled much stronger than Sanders among female Democrat respondents and older voters.

Sanders was particularly popular among young voters. Nearly 60 percent of 18- to 29-year-old Democrat respondents said they support the Vermont senator for their party’s nomination.

Sanders will be in Portland Sunday night at the Moda Center for a campaign rally.

The overall poll results had a margin of error of 4.2 percent.

So Ted is tied with John Ellis Bush and Scott Walker within the margin of error? In a deep blue state?

The old munitions storage bunkers underneath Alcatraz might work, although I think such accommodations are better than she deserves.

Thank God that Scott is in second on this one. That dang Bush beat him in Georgia for some reason......Scott will be our President in 2016 I hope. The rest are just awful.
