There is only one way Donald Trump can win the Republican presidential nomination next year. Its something hes familiar with from his big business career. Its called a hostile takeover.
Trumps supporters will have to beat the Republican Party establishment into submission.
Wait a minute. Isnt Trump the frontrunner for the Republican nomination going into the first debate? Yes. But hes only got the support of a quarter of rank-and-file Republican voters. Nearly one-third of Republicans say they could not vote for Trump.
Trump is winning the Tea Party base of the GOP. Theyre activist and theyre influential. But the Republican establishment looks at the Tea Party movement with deep suspicion. After all, outlandish Tea Party candidates kept the Republican Party from winning a Senate majority in 2010: Christine ODonnell in Delaware (Im not a witch), Sharron Angle in Nevada (unemployed Americans are spoiled), Ken Buck in Colorado (ban all abortions, including those for victims of rape and incest).
Tea Party nominees cost Republicans two more Senate seats in 2012: Todd Akin in Missouri (legitimate rape cannot result in pregnancy) and Richard Mourdock in Indiana (pregnancy as a result of rape is something God intended to happen).
Trump has said more than his share of outrageous things: Barack Obamas birth certificate is a fraud, Mexico is sending people who have lots of problems [including] drugs and being rapists,(continued)

If they’ve nudged him out to just teaching (and writing an occasional, over-the-top column), that’s at least an improvement.
I'm pretty sure there are plenty of people out there who would love to beat the Republican Party establishment into submission. Actually, they'd probably like to beat them to a point far worse than that - like extinction.
