An unscientific straw poll conducted by the Cowlitz County Republicans at last week’s Go 4th Festival put Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul at the top of the list of GOP presidential candidates in the 2016 race.
Rounding out the top three favorites for president were Ted Cruz, a U.S. senator from Texas who ranked second, and Ben Carson, a pediatric neurosurgeon and author, who place third. The least favorite among the 16 Republican presidential candidates? Donald Trump.
“I thought he would be at one extreme or another. He would either be at the top or at the bottom,” party chair Arne Mortensen said Wednesday.
More than 200 ballots were turned in at the GOP booth at the Lake Sacajawea flea market. Voters had the opportunity to indicate their first, second, and third choice for a Republican Party presidential candidate and also had the option to indicate their least favorite candidate. Anyone could cast a ballot.
“Our goal for conducting the straw poll was to highlight for the public the diversity of choice within the Republican Party,” Mortensen said. “We hope the results encourage people to discuss their American values and the messages they want their party leaders to hear.”
Mortensen said the Republican party will have another informal poll for voters at the Cowlitz County Fair, which is being held at the fairgrounds July 22-25.

Hey I live in WA state....this state is full of liberal wacko’s. I love taking their money in friendly golf games. Only sane county in WA state is Clark county. King county is Seattle and surrounding counties are full of liberals smoking pot.
Paul first is an anomaly, lots of libertarians out there though. What’s more impressive is Cruz second, he’s finally getting the attention he deserves. Trump last? Maybe the people of Washington aren’t as stupid as I’ve thought. ;)
Washington is leftist only within 50-100 miles of the ocean — similar to California and Oregon.

This is the first I’ve heard of such a poll, and I live here! I stay away from the Go 4th activities; it’s a good way to get your pocket picked.
The “unscientific straw poll” got me laughing as well.
