Sen. Rand Paul is in step with his party on most issues. He’s pro-life, a big backer of gun rights, a small-government conservative and he’s an unabashed critic of President Obama and Hillary Clinton. And yet, Paul is again in the spotlight talking about his disagreements with his own party. For months, Paul has been focused on reducing criminal penalties for drugs. Last week, he blamed GOP hawks for the creation of ISIS. Now, he has succeeded in pulling off a one-man blockade of the Patriot Act.
Like his other views, Paul’s stand is no doubt sincere and he couldn’t control the timing of the deadline. But even if he’s not acting out of political calculation, Paul’s obstruction is also no doubt necessary given his core supporters’ views on the subject. Presumably, the current effort will cement his status as the real libertarian in the race. But how will that help him grow his stagnant 7 percent? Conservatives generally share Paul’s concerns about over-broad surveillance, but that doesn’t mean that they will like what he’s doing. Even some voters disposed to like Paul are uneasy.
Paul, who suggested some of his critics were hoping for a terrorist attack during the Patriot Act lapse as fodder for political attacks against him, clearly sees himself as a man locked in an epic struggle with wicked people. Paul could take credit for the changes that will be made once his procedural efforts expire, but instead he is casting himself in a similar, if less damaging, role that Ted Cruz filled during the 2013 ObamaCare government shutdown....

I like much of Rand Paul's stances. Have issues with foreign policy but need more thought on it. Not a fan of libertarian drug stances but some changes need to be made.
On the whole I like Rand. Like several others also.
Yeah, he does seem a little arrogant. I think a lot of younger doctors are these days. Which is probably a silly generalization.
He has other issues that just drugs,etc. Check his recent positions and you will understand why he is a persona non grata on this list.
How can Cruz be in the top 4 when all of the “polls” have him at 5%. Funny, aint it?
BTW, Jeb isn’t the leader either.
If you are saying all the polls show Cruz at 5%, I think that is wrong. At a minimum, Quinniapac showed him at 7% in their latest.
In April (poll taken in March), Public Policy:
“Walker continues to lead the field with 20%, although that’s down from his 25% standing a month ago. Bush continues to poll at 17%, followed by Cruz at 16%, Ben Carson and Rand Paul at 10%, Marco Rubio and Mike Huckabee at 6%, Chris Christie at 4%, and Rick Perry at 3%.”

I do admit, some polls don’t have Cruz doing well, it would need some study.
PPP has good numbers...it is closer to what I’d expect.
Keep in mind when Real Clear, etc, give poll numbers, it is an aggregate of all polls. Fox News has purposely kept Cruz out of their polls.
Besides, if you look at crwods showing up at events for Cruz, the fact that the Left is still writing hit pieces on him, the fact that he is asked to keynote so many events...his polling isn’t as low as they say.
Besides, anyone who things Huck and Carson are ahead of him are full of crap.
