The NSA is commiting the equivalent of going through every Americans pockets and cataloging the contents.
They haven’t the right nor the authority. ...
That quote blows me away.
Washington Post “reporting” in the grand tradition of the late David Broder - Talk to a bunch of “everyday people” and put words in their mouths.
This is not journalism.
Iowa's "good people" aren't always so good- this isn't the same place it was only 25 years ago, let alone in the pre-Harold Hughes days. The state motto may as well be changed to "Our liberties we despise and our rights we will disdain."
We've got some dandy agricultural fiefdoms, a massive government school empire, and enough insurance executives to fill Kinnick Stadium, but liberty? Not so much. We generally take one step forward and two steps back.

Not everybody is as completely unreasoning as the Paul Crowd.
I’ve always had some problems with the patriot act but am not unthinkingly reflexive about it.
If, bit if, this article is accurate and not just a news feed from the NSA or other interested parties, Paul’s argument could be very simple:
“Only a fraction of a percent of this government surveillance is against terrorists and potential terrorists. All the rest is directed against ordinary Americans with no, zero suspicion of involvement in terrorism. Is it worth a trillion dollars for the federal government to count, register and number every grain of sand on a beach, because someone broke a bottle on it?”
And follow it up by saying:
“If the government spied on you, personally, for every waking moment in your life, would it make you feel safer from terrorism? Shouldn’t you expect at least some ‘bang for your buck’ by them watching terrorists for a change?”
I am all for Paul going after domestic spying what I am not for is Paul and his libertarian baggage which includes his father being president.
I know because both my parents are from Iowa, and a couple of my cousins are hard-core leftists, including a college professor.
Iowa has two things: Corn and Education. Problem is, the State has a leftist bent that few outside the State actually sees. There’s a reason that, unless you work on a farm or are a teacher, you have to move out of State.
The corn subsidies clouded their vision.
