For Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), the issue of sexual assault on college campuses is personal.
During his years at Princeton University, Cruz spearheaded efforts to fight date rape at the school. In an exclusive interview with Business Insider, he said his focus on the issue was in part inspired by a dark chapter in his family history.
"When I was in student government in college, protecting student safety was a real priority, and no student should ever have to face the threat of sexual assault," Cruz said in an email to Business Insider. "In my own family, my aunt experienced terrible abuse in prison in Cuba, and that made protecting women from assault all the more personal."
After leaving Princeton in 1992, Cruz said he continued his efforts to fight sexual assault.
"Years later, when I was the Solicitor General of Texas, I argued numerous cases where vicious criminals had sexually assaulted women or children. In all my years in law enforcement, there were no cases I was more proud of litigating," he explained....

I think I may have to order a gilded ink pen so I can mark my ballot for him in style in 2016.
Actually I’m generally not here to attack anyone.
I did have the good luck of meeting and having a nice conversation with Mr. Cruz. He attended Second Amendment Day at the Capitol in Austin.
He certainly seems to be the “real deal”. I would love to see him as out next president, but I don’t think that will happen.
Think positively. It’s time to MAKE it happen. Our nation’s future depends upon it.
What’s stopping us from making it happen?
I’m not sure he has enough name recognition at this point. Freepers know all about him of course—but among the national population, I don’t think a lot of people are paying attention to him.
Of course, I’d love to be wrong about this.
If he does run, I’ll support him with my vote—and will tell all the 2ASisters about him, although we as a group cannot legally endorse a candidate. Our members come from all walks of life. We can point out to them that he is very pro 2A, but we cannot endorse anyone.
Before the end of WWII, student events at universities were always chaperoned by faculty. The WWII veterans wanted nothing of that, so the tradition ended. However, a middle ground is needed.
That is, campus police are not chaperones. Universities can host polite events with real chaperones at them, so there is at least some situation where students can socialize under friendlier, less predatory circumstances.
That’s because veterans were adults, not children.
What’s Hillary’s record on prosecuting rape cases?
The very point of liberalism is that the government is the parents, and the People are children. Cops, therefore, are parent stand-ins for children. Males (never men) are all rapists and never to be trusted, women (never females) are genetic paragons of integrity, and an all-powerful, totalitarian, communist State run by women and emasculated males is literally the key to paradise on Earth.
So in other words, liberal want more cops. Way, way, WAY more cops. They don't want chaperones. Chaperones have nothing to do with administrative power. They involve trusting the integrity of a man. Worse, they require acknowledging a man AS a man in the first place. Chaperones, to a liberal, undermine everything. They stand for the idea of trust and respect between the sexes, to create safety outside of administrative authority and power.
No, no, no.
