Chris Christie is immensely popular and is a huge favorite for reelection in New Jersey this year, with voters from across the political spectrum giving him the thumbs up.
When it comes to the national conservative base, though, the governor is at risk of earning a different one-finger salute.
Christie is already on probation with some conservatives for his praise of President Obamas work on Hurricane Sandy in the closing days of the 2012 election something a few critics have even suggested put the president over the top.
Now the potential 2016 presidential contender has lashed out at the National Rifle Association, calling a new ad from the group reprehensible for using Obamas daughters to make a political point.
To talk about the presidents children or any public officers children who have not by their own choice, but by requirement to have protection and to use that somehow to try to make a political point, I think, is reprehensible, Christie said. He added: I think its awful to bring public figures children into the political debate. They dont deserve to be there. And for any of us who are public figures, you see that ad and you cringe. You cringe because its just not appropriate to do that, in my opinion.

Within the Republican Party, there are certain groups you just dont mess with if you want to win primaries, and the NRA is one of them. As were seeing in the current gun debate, even many Democrats dont mess with the NRA...

He burned his own house down to the foundation. He's toast in my book.
Who forced them into public office?
Rush predicts Christie will defeat Hillary for the Dem nomination. It’s really his only chance at being President.
Did anyone check out the W-P comments on this story? Lately, I think I’m living in an alternate universe.
Fat Boy can F... off so far as I’m concerned. And don’t ANYONE come back to me in 2016 and tell me I have to support this jerk if he wins the primary. I won’t.
Mark this down,he will barely, if that, get re-elected. The local media has already started its “We will give it that he handled Sandy well, buuuuuuuuuuut (fill in the class warfare here shtick here)”. The voters of NJ are dem to the core and once a dem candidate is named they will line up lockstep behind that candidate.
Whether it’s required or not do you think Obama does it reluctantly? Hell no.
Fatass needs to tell this to Obama who keeps bringing his kids into it.
Life sentence? More like it.
He better jump the fence and move parties as I will not vote for this opportunistic idiot. He is as good if not better a politician as Odummer...
It truly sickens me as to how corrupt the politicians are!
The alternatives are even worse Libtards like John Corzine (NJ) and Dannel Malloy (CT).
If I wouldn't have to take a beating selling my house I would be Texas- or Alabama-bound in a heartbeat.
It also appears from an earlier post today, that he will support the NJ Senate passed legislation that requires union-only members to complete Sandy restoration work....he’s toast on the national level....
Christie is proof that the GOP is a big tent party. Wouldn’t have room for his lard ass otherwise.
“Chris Christie is immensely popular and is a huge favorite...”
Immense and huge. Truer words...
May I add, no self-control with either what he stuffs into his pie-hole or what comes out of it.
How is he different from a flubby welfare queen flapping her gums on the local news channel?
The only difference I can see is he lives in better public housing and can call up the National Guard when things don’t go his petulant way.
This fat F can go blank himself.
Thanks for mentioning Alabama as a desirable locale. Lots of people seem to think only of Texas when thinking relocation, whereas Alabama has its equal in good people (I think) and a better climate.
Joizy voters are way to the left. The only time a Republican can get elected is when the previous Democrat has become too corrupt and criminal and scandal-ridden for even Joizy voters to swallow any longer.
Corzine, for instance.
We said things similar about Romney ... and look who the GOP elected. The elite ALWAYS get who they want ... and they want Christie.
That would be one big grease fire....
We should pass around the contact info to call the R party so we can tell them we’re renouncing our affiliation.
I plan on doing it as soon as I get a good contact.
My vote doesn’t count in primaries anyhow. I didn’t choose mclame or romney. And I want to tell them before I renounce.
They nominate him I will vote 3rd party in a heart beat or even a Democrat that lines up with my views(not holding my breath on that happening). I’m actually planning on changing my registration to be able to vote in the Democratic primary.
I think Hillary better wise up. She’s got some pretty big competition in Christie for the Dem nomination in 2016.
In addition to my previous post I would NOT be surprised if there is an extramarital activity smoldering below the surface.
Where’s the best climate in Alabama? Used to travel to Mobile and the Humidity was horrible, as was the crime rate.
Humidity is high for the whole state, just like the rest of the deep South. Stay away from Mobile, Montgomery, and Birmingham - all majority black cities with dysfunctional city governments and high crime rates.
Seriously doubt it.
Christie is a RINO.
My aunt from there thinks that veterans and military retirees don’t deserve a dime after leaving the service but that welfare is just fine.
amen thats what i think too
This whale beached himself over Sandy. The dems prop up this porker and this porker revels in it now.
Just wait until they apply the harpoon. Either way, the harpoon will come from the left and the right.
He is a dope, folks.
“I got you fat boy!”...
I’m sitting out Christie’s next run. Hope to be a SW Florida resident before then.
That's nice. I won't vote for him. Not ever.
Christie is trying to play the Arlen Specter game. It didn’t end well for Arlen and it will not end well for Christie.
Nobody likes a traitor to their side, but they sure as well will use them and then spit them out.
very true. although, keep in mind that Romney did not get the nomination his first time around in 2008. Back then folks saw him for the phony he was and he crashed and burned in IA and NH.
He won in 2012 by default, really. He was the next in line from 2008 and his competition was way past his prime Newt and Santorum. And each of them came very close to beating him. If Huckabee or Palin had run in 2011-12 they’d have beaten Romney.
So, I don’t know about it Christie in 2016. He could lose in 2016 and be in good shape for 2020, but 2016 is no lock for him.
But conservatives will need to rally behind one guy(or gal). We can’t have this situation like 2012 where Newt, Santorum, Perry, Bachmann, Cain etc... all split the vote or like 2012 where Fred, Huckabee, even Romney back then split the vote. That’s how we wound up with McCain and Romney.
If we can all unite behind one person early in 2015 they’ll be in great shape.
You could even see the moderate/establishment vote split among Christie, Ryan, Jeb Bush, etc...
The Huntsville area is very nice.
Christie isn’t playing with fire at all.
He’s done. A crispie critter grilled up by his own hand.
That it is although a bit too liberal for me with the university and the number of northerners who fail to embrace Alabama values. Actually, my North Alabama preference would be Cullman, a with a high percentage of Christians and Conservatives. I also recall that nearly everyone there was a gun owner. And, to top it off, the proportion of urban thug types is pretty low in Cullman.
I'm with ya'. Christie can kiss my butt!
Unintentional word choices, no doubt. I don't care for the demonrat governor from NJ, but I do find the somewhat subtle "journalism" interesting.
No you just had a brush with the crazies of the coastal lunatic fringe.
Would not surprise me in the least to see the Democrat presidential contenders in 2016 be Christie, Bloomberg, and Cuomo...and Hillary out of the running.
Would also expect the eventual Dem nominee to pick the first minority openly gay/lesbian running mate too...again, Hillary out of the running.
Then came the mushy effusive big hug for the fantastic visit of Obama [A President who visits a disaster area! How astonishing! Whoever HEARD of such a thing?]
I am in NC now but still own a place about 20 min south of Huntsville. Never really ran into many liberals there my self but don’t go looking for them either
