Chris Christie is playing with fire
The Washington Post's The Fix ^ | January 18, 2013 | Aaron Blake

Chris Christie is immensely popular and is a huge favorite for reelection in New Jersey this year, with voters from across the political spectrum giving him the thumbs up.

When it comes to the national conservative base, though, the governor is at risk of earning a different one-finger salute.

Christie is already on probation with some conservatives for his praise of President Obama’s work on Hurricane Sandy in the closing days of the 2012 election — something a few critics have even suggested put the president over the top.

Now the potential 2016 presidential contender has lashed out at the National Rifle Association, calling a new ad from the group “reprehensible” for using Obama’s daughters to make a political point.

“To talk about the president’s children or any public officer’s children who have — not by their own choice, but by requirement — to have protection and to use that somehow to try to make a political point, I think, is reprehensible,” Christie said. He added: “I think it’s awful to bring public figures’ children into the political debate. They don’t deserve to be there. And for any of us who are public figures, you see that ad and you cringe. You cringe because it’s just not appropriate to do that, in my opinion.”

Within the Republican Party, there are certain groups you just don’t mess with if you want to win primaries, and the NRA is one of them. As we’re seeing in the current gun debate, even many Democrats don’t mess with the NRA...

Where was he when the Democrats, media, Hollywood, Broadway, academia and nutroots were excoriating all of Governor Sarah Palin's children, from a soldier to a young mother to a Down's syndrome newborn? Can anyone show me where he attacked them about that?

Rush predicts Christie will defeat Hillary for the Dem nomination. It’s really his only chance at being President.

Did anyone check out the W-P comments on this story? Lately, I think I’m living in an alternate universe.

Fat Boy can F... off so far as I’m concerned. And don’t ANYONE come back to me in 2016 and tell me I have to support this jerk if he wins the primary. I won’t.

Mark this down,he will barely, if that, get re-elected. The local media has already started its “We will give it that he handled Sandy well, buuuuuuuuuuut (fill in the class warfare here shtick here)”. The voters of NJ are dem to the core and once a dem candidate is named they will line up lockstep behind that candidate.

Whether it’s required or not do you think Obama does it reluctantly? Hell no.

"Probation"? No.

Life sentence? More like it.

It really is hell living in a Blue State - jerks like Christie and (in my state) Jody Rell are the BEST that Republicans can ever hope for.

The alternatives are even worse Libtards like John Corzine (NJ) and Dannel Malloy (CT).

If I wouldn't have to take a beating selling my house I would be Texas- or Alabama-bound in a heartbeat.

It also appears from an earlier post today, that he will support the NJ Senate passed legislation that requires union-only members to complete Sandy restoration work....he’s toast on the national level....

Christie is proof that the GOP is a big tent party. Wouldn’t have room for his lard ass otherwise.

“Chris Christie is immensely popular and is a huge favorite...”

Immense and huge. Truer words...

May I add, no self-control with either what he stuffs into his pie-hole or what comes out of it.

How is he different from a flubby welfare queen flapping her gums on the local news channel?

The only difference I can see is he lives in better public housing and can call up the National Guard when things don’t go his petulant way.

Thanks for mentioning Alabama as a desirable locale. Lots of people seem to think only of Texas when thinking relocation, whereas Alabama has its equal in good people (I think) and a better climate.

Joizy voters are way to the left. The only time a Republican can get elected is when the previous Democrat has become too corrupt and criminal and scandal-ridden for even Joizy voters to swallow any longer.

Corzine, for instance.

We said things similar about Romney ... and look who the GOP elected. The elite ALWAYS get who they want ... and they want Christie.
