Poll: 58% of Republicans want more presidential choices
CBS News ^ | January 9, 2012 | Brian Montopoli

The nominating process may officially be underway, but Republicans have yet to enthusiastically embrace a potential nominee for president - and despite the late date, most would like to see other candidates enter the race, according to a new CBS News poll.

The survey finds that 58 percent of Republican primary voters want more presidential choices, while just 37 percent say they are satisfied with the current field. The percentage of Republican primary voters that wants more choices has increased 12 percentage points since October.

Mitt Romney, the frontrunner for the nomination, has struggled to break 30 percent support in state and local polls in an election cycle that has seen multiple candidates move ahead of Romney in the polls before seeing their support erode. In this national survey, taken after Romney's narrow victory in the Iowa caucuses, the former Massachusetts governor leads the field - though he holds just 19 percent support. Only 28 percent of GOP primary voters say they've made up their mind, and just 20 percent who've made a choice strongly favor their candidate.

It's mathematically possible for another candidate to enter the race as late as early February and still win enough delegates to take the nomination, though some deadlines for candidates to get on state ballots have already passed, including those in delegate-rich Virginia and Illinois. A late entry into the GOP race would come with potentially-overwhelming obstacles, including the need to instantly build a national campaign apparatus and do the hard work of getting on state ballots in an extremely compressed time period.

The list of prominent Republicans who have announced they would not seek the presidency this cycle include Chris Christie, Sarah Palin, Mitch Daniels, Paul Ryan and Haley Barbour....

Who could pull this off?

The candidates in the race are the ones that chose to run.

The GOP didnt restrict any of the people complaining form submitting their own names.

I think the fact that so many great people chose *not* to run (and this has been the case for decades) is another sign of the sorry shape the US is in - it’s no longer a country where the best people make the sacrifice and step forward for public office. Only mediocrities, to fatten their egos, enrich themselves or some other self-serving purpose.

The better options who chose not to run have better things to do than serving their country in its hour of dire need, like being lucrative TV personalities.

Where is our Ronald Reagan?

Looks to me like we have crooks and scam artist.
Fortunately I do not so much have a dog in this hunt.
I would, of course, vote for anyone over Obozo, but being from Tennessee, I never have to worry.

These people need to wake up and realize that they have to choose from the options available.

Sitting out and complaining is going to give them Romney-Obama in the general.

Hey, we had a candidate who was firing up the bases, beating Romney, winning in most of America.

Then we trashed him and discarded him. Gotta lie in the bed that’s been made.

Man, imagine had we not smeared Cain.

Yeah, Haley Barbour would go far, he just pardoned his whole future cabinet of murderers from lengthy prison sentences. The Rats wouldn’t make use of that!

I want more choices too, but he is in heaven, and she is not running. Let's make the best of what we have.

Yes, Sarah is the best we have, but she is not running.

I stand by my prediction that America is dead within the next five years, unless the Marxist are overthrown.

Romney busts so many moves

I wouldn't trust him to be an ice cream man.
Support FR, defeat the rinos.

The fact of the matter is that the Republican Party is in complete disarray, and it is the fault of the old guard leadership, which wants to go back to business as usual with the same old DC beltway hacks running things, as opposed to the TEA Party which wants to overturn them and beat the Rats.

And so rather than embracing the TEA Party movement, you have the GOP-E trying to either co-opt or stifle it altogether, and the base ain't going along with it.

Where is our Ronald Reagan?

She chose not to run because of the vicious smear attacks and death threats against her children.

SEEBS out sowing the seeds of discord and discontent.

Other entries at this time will only divide and dilute more than it already is.

Clever reply, and yes, America is in deep over the head.
With education and media all under Communist rule, how will the USA survive?

I think it’s probably fair to assume as well the GOP Country Club elite who hold the purse strings also told her to butt out, that their money was behind Romney because it’s “his turn.” Look how well that’s turning out.

You mean there's a problem with the one the GOP elite have selected?
