Huckabee Predicts Romney Will Win Iowa
KDFW-TV ^ | December 25, 2011

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee predicted Sunday that Mitt Romney will win the Iowa caucuses despite not having spent much time or money there.

Huckabee, 56, made the prediction in an appearance on "FOX News Sunday," but warned Ron Paul could still pose a serious challenge to the former Massachusetts governor.

"I would probably say that Mitt Romney will end up winning it today," Huckabee told host Chris Wallace.

"Now, I think, again, Ron Paul, because of his organization, that is where Mitt is at a disadvantage. He doesn't have the devotion," he went on.

"If the weather is good, Mitt Romney is in better shape. If the weather is bad and it's real tough to get out, Ron Paul would win."

Huckabee -- who won the Iowa caucuses in 2008, finishing second in the delegate count to eventual Republican nominee, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) -- said he could also see Paul winning because of the intensity of support he enjoys from the so-called "Paulites."

"Ron Paul has an exceptional organization there. And it very well could be that he could end up winning because of the extraordinary devotion of his followers," Huckabee said. "He's got people that would walk over broken glass for him and they'd break the glass just to be able to say they did it. So, watch out for Ron Paul."

However, he said Romney was likely to benefit from the fact evangelical voters in Iowa have yet to rally around a conservative candidate.

"Mitt Romney could win the Iowa caucus if the vote splinters among a lot of the conservatives who haven't yet made up their mind," Huckabee predicted.

He also confirmed that former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who had been leading in Iowa polls until a recent drop-off in support had been hurt by negative advertisements against him put out by his rivals.

"I mean, Newt is a good candidate. He's had a great message,"Huckabee said. "But he has been pounded by Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, Rick Perry and pretty much anybody who has 15 cents to buy part of an ad.

"The truth is, negative ads continually are used because they work."

With just nine days until the Iowa caucuses, polls show a tight, three-way race in the Hawkeye State. According to the RealClearPolitics average of the most recent polls, Paul currently garners 23 percent support of likely caucus-goers, ahead of Romney with 20 percent and Gingrich with 17.

As the individual who won last time around, I suppose we should take his prediction seriously. If Milt were to win and then go on to win New Hampshire, it would cement his status as the frontrunner and probably take him to the convention.

Not really. Florida is where every eventual Republican nominee has won for more than the last 50 years. Though I suppose it would depend on the margin of victory.

If he won Iowa, New Hampshire and [shudder] South Carolina (remember, he was endorsed by their governor) he’d be real hard to stop going in to Florida, don’t you think?

Huckabee did not run this time for the simple and only reason, evident in this absurd prediction: He didn’t know how he one last time and feared he could not duplicate the events. He is right on both of those counts and dead wrong on the Iowa prediction.

Huckabee won Iowa. How much good did that do him?

He is right, I think.

No way Mitt wins in South Carolina. Newt has a regional advantage as well as an idealogical advantage.

Once super Tuseday arrives, the GOP will find that they wasted their breath supporting Mitt Romney.

The Huckster is a blabbering fool and should just keep his mouth shut. He’s nothing more than a blue dog Dem (RINO) who raised taxes in Arkansas as Gov. and should just stick to his insipid TV show. ....I guess that’s enough for me to say to give the impression that I can’t stand the man.

Mr. Huckabee WORKS for FOX and therefore pimps the
very man who, by dirty tricks, ended his candidacy.

Mr. Huckabee yesterday grimaced upon hearing the
word "Gingrich"; suggesting he is now in love with
his former backstabber (Romney).

"Despite outspending his rivals by huge margins throughout the primaries,
(Mitt Romney, Carpetbagger UT,CA,MA,NH,Mexico) lost Iowa, South Carolina, Florida and California.
The only primaries he won were in Michigan, where Dad was governor; LDS states;
and a few states on Super Tuesday in which his California-obsessed rivals
couldn't spare the cash to advertise.
Only John Connolly in 1968 had a worse cash-to-delegates ratio.
And John McCain rightly did not like Romney's tactics during the primaries.
(W)hen (Romney's early leads) started slipping away, he resorted to unfair,
distorted, scorched-earth negative ads, betting that his opponents couldn't
afford to spend enough for the truth to catch up to his charges."

and he can predict that Romney will win VA - where his buddies manage to disqualify all but himself and Ron Paul!

Gingrich and Perry and all the others should demand that VA disqualify obama because obama is not an article 2 natural born citizen - the rule of the land for the presidency!

The ineligibility of Romney means that RomneyBOTs support OBAMA on this, too.

Isn't Florida already penalized 50% of it's delegates for moving up it's primary? Kind of fishy now, yes? Their GOP leadership has effectively castrated their ability to select a winner, and they are a primarily conservative state.

I hope so, but who's going to count those votes, and who will determine if they count at all? Look at Virginia...

I just caught the tail-end of Huckabee on Judge Jeanine. The guy must have a man-crush on Romney. More establishment disturbances...
