The Unorthodox Frontrunner (Thinks Romney is da man for 2012)
The American Spectator ^ | November 18, 2010 | Philip Klein

Posted on 11/21/2010 3:25:56 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Viewed in isolation, Mitt Romney's 2012 presidential candidacy is doomed.

In 2008, Romney earned himself a reputation as a flip-flopper as he dramatically attempted to reshape himself as a stanch conservative despite having previously staked out liberal positions on abortion, guns, immigration and a litany of other issues.

This time around, Romney faces the additional burden of trying to explain away his most significant legislative accomplishment as governor of Massachusetts -- a big government health care plan that was a model for ObamaCare. In his last presidential bid he was largely able to get a pass, because health care wasn't as big of an issue. But this time around, Republican voters are clamoring for repeal of the national health care law while conservatives are cheering on constitutional challenges to its individual mandate to purchase health insurance -- a central element of MassCare that Romney defended during his first presidential run.

Despite these complicating factors, the reality is that Romney would not be seeking the GOP presidential nomination in a vacuum. In reality, if he's going to lose, some other candidate is going to have to beat him, and right now, all of the other prospective Republican candidates have their own set of weaknesses.....

It's articles like this that make me want to double my fundraising pledge for Gov. Sarah Palin (from $2 million to $4 million dollars) because the GOP is just stupid enough to do what Mr. Klein is describing.

I think he could make a run as an independent and even put up a fight but he’ll never and I mean never get the GOP nomination.

We already know — from the candidacies of Bob Dole and John McCain — that the RNC will docilely acquiesce to the demands of their hidden masters, and take a dive when so ordered. At some point, national politics will lose all credibility, and we’ll start attending to our own local issues again.

As a former boss suggested, national politics is like WWF pro wrestling. The only rule is — the designated loser loses, at the designated moment.

Romney has as much of a chance as I do to be the nominee. Perhaps if there wasn’t a video-taped record of all his liberal speeches, people may have forgotten. However, they would all be replayed in opponents’ campaign ads, reminding voters of his long list of flip-flops.

A sobering article. It would certainly help Sarah Palin’s cause if Huckabee were knocked out early.

Don’t forget Romney’s Gun Permit modification to Massachusetts. We had “Life-Long” FID cards that allowed us to have & use our weapons. It was $2. Now, everyones old “Life-Long” gun permits are expired and it’s now $100 every 4 years. We have Mitt to thank for that too. At least Obama gives us a staight forward reason to hate him. Mitt is a side-winder that smiles out of one side of his face and lies out the other.

Mitt is such a pussy he's afraid to even declare until Sarah Palin decides what she's going to do. Four years ago at this time there were 47 declared Republicans. This year there are zero. Why would that be?

ineluctable

Booger’s commentary was more to the point than Klein’s idiotic column.

Romney didn’t get out of the gate in ‘08 and he has romneycare for baggage this time around.

As for being ‘next in line’, Huckaboob came in second, so to speak, because he stayed in the race just for the heck of it.

I'm with you. I notice these Mitt puff-pieces always omit that he spent about--what--60 million dollars in 2008 and got absolutely nowhere. If the GOP keeps open their primaries, there will be a Romney surge from the 'rat version of Operation Chaos, to the devastation of the nation.

To win the nomination, one must win delegates. To win delegates, one must win states. Winning New Hampshire, Nevada, Utah and Massachusetts won’t be enough for Romney. I’ll even throw in California. He still finishes 5th in South Carolina and most of the south, 4th at best in Iowa.

He had a wide open field against a McCain who was out of money, the support of Coulter and others, and found he has a hard upper limit, and that upper limit is in the low 20s.

The fact that Romney was gov of Massachusetts, the state that gave us the Kennedy infection for so long, and he didn't have the ba**s to reign in the socialist agenda, toasted him for me in '08. There are a lot of Californians who are sick of RINO's, and a lot of them are getting better at smelling them when they're still a long way off. Sarah and the NJ Gov would make a fine pair: fresh ideas, success in their states, and a real idea of what it means to run a business!

RNC, you listening? Don't you EVER foist someone on us like McCain or Dole again. We want a REAL candidate!!

The Republicans won’t do it. Democrats will. They have their 2012 nominee. They will register Republican in the primary in droves and vote for Romney.
