Thanks for letting us know this. I had no idea that Indiana was still counting and that McCain was ahead. At least our near neighbors have some sanity, as here in Michigan we have sadly just gotten more blue this election (in more ways than one).

Absentee and provisional, I would guess.
I would really like to know why the Indiana SOS website, updating regularly, has such radically different numbers than news networks.
To: Abathar
I can understand your sentiments and as a Colorado person I would be happy to see Indiana flip to McCain too. Do you think there’s a chance of that happening?
To: flintsilver7
That would make this born and bred Buckeye, now living in Hoosierland happy!!
It’s bad enough Ohio went blue, but Indiana, too...yikes!

If this is true and the state flips back to America, it will be interesting to see how the media covers it. I saw glowing happy news slugs gloating over this state going blue after the media declared it for Comrade Zero.
To: The_Victor
Great, but its not like this is going to alter the outcome of the election.
It is important. Perception is everything in politics. If you give an impression that Indiana went for Obama, it will make them work hard on other red states. Look at North Carolina. We lost by 11 or 12 K but, it will be projected as blue state. It is not. Althought democrats are more in this state, they never vote for democrats in presidential election. It is still a conservative state but they got this idea that, they can change North carolina into a real blue state.

Gore conceded and then retracted. Even several days after the fact, can McCain not retract concession and wait for absentee and provisional ballots to be counted?
Although at this point I doubt Governor Palin (God Bless her!) would want to be associated with him.

At least our near neighbors have some sanity, as here in Michigan we have sadly just gotten more blue this election (in more ways than one).
We need to take page from democrats. If it is a blue state and if it is within a margin 5 to 10%, we should build ground work in those states. It is easy to flip 5% in an election. If they flip 12% win of Bush to win North carolina, we should be able do that in blue states. Just talking about conservative values is not going to help. We need more registration, more ground work and more people to volunteer. If not, we will be a dying breed.

Yes, I already acknowledged that and I would certainly like to know why. CNN is showing Marion county with a more than 100,000 vote margin for Obama but the SOS website shows them as not yet reporting. Do the counties call CNN first? Does the SOS report to the major networks before updating their own website? If that’s true, why are they still updating it every few minutes?
To: LottieDah
It will once it’s shown that Obama wasn’t born in the United States! :P

Same here. I'm embarrassed about the direction Indiana took.
Also, this disclaimer was not on the SOS web site yesterday:
"Note: These results are NOT yet official. A number of counties have yet to provide their data to the state."
To: flintsilver7
I would really like to know why the Indiana SOS website, updating regularly, has such radically different numbers than news networks.
The SOS's site is just confirming official numbers for Indiana counties. So far there are still 8 counties that haven't been officially approved. The largest in voter count still out, Marion, had an expected 105,000 plus vote margin of Obama over Mccain. Unless there are some issues with provisional ballots that weren't included in the numbers on election night, I don't expect to see significantly different results than reported on election night. We'll see.

I guess the country still is DIVIDED and it ain’t Bush’s fault....AND Obama certainly does NOT have a mandate. That’s what this tells me. Also, blacks cannot claim racism anymore...affirmative action should be closed down...and hopefully blacks will soon realize that their messiah is NOT going to save them or help them.
To: flintsilver7
The news networks do not have the certified count.
They make the calls based on exit polling.
The certified count is the official count.

Marion county turned out 314,000 in 2004 with a 51-49 Kerry margin. Have they turned out an additional 15% with a 2-1 lead for Obama? Sure, it’s possible. It’s convenient how that’s the last major county not reporting.
To: LottieDah
364 to 173 is an electoral college landslide and pretty much a strong mandate. Get that down to 300 to 237 and it’s a lot closer, less of a mandate.

If GWB did not endorse MFN, conservative textile and light manufacturing communities would provide the margin of victory for McCain. Instead the GOP catered to the free traders, passed MFN, WTO and want even more free trade with Latin America, and the blue collar Reagan Dems went with BO. You can not lead an Army to victory if you start screwing the troops who support you.

I don't know where CNN or the other networks get their data.
Also on the SOS web site:
"The election night returns reported on the "Live Election Returns" area of this site are not yet final and official, but represent what is known as the "Election Night Canvass."
To: Ranjit
You are right. We “rich Republicans” were vastly outspent by B Hussein. Since many of us are working families with tight budgets, volunteering is one way we can get the word out next time. I have been a bit lukewarm on the Republicans in recent years, but that is the best structure we have at this point so we need to get strongly behind it.

Nowadays, anything is possible. Taking both IN and NC would not change the outcome (victory) since he lost Penn. and Florida.
Palin should be proud of her accomplishments... notice that the media wants facetime with her and NOT McCain.

You’re right. If we didn’t let those companies outsource most of their production, those jobs - and the jobs and receipts of the bosses and company owners - would have been lost as well...
Better to let the company die altogether on US soil rather than survive with manufacturing overseas!

I thought Marion County was much more skewed toward Dem's in 2004 (not the state). I'll take your word. If so that would be :
2004 Dems --153,860 to Reps -- 160,140
Projected from
CNN is a total vote count of 368,734
2008 Dems --237,275 to Reps -- 131,459.
Yes, that's a big swing and a pretty good increase in total votes for Marion County. Interesting.
Do you have a 2004 vote count for Lake County as a comparison? They are heavily democrat.
