Dear Friend,

We have to find new sources of energy - here at home. It is difficult for a family to save and nearly impossible to plan long term if they don't know what the price of gasoline will be to fuel their cars when they wake up in the morning. It's clear we need to find more sources of energy.

We also need to use less. As you know, Oklahoma native T. Boone Pickens has made news recently promoting wind farms across the great middle of our country. I recently introduced legislation in the Senate to promote the use of natural gas as a transportation fuel. There are also proposals being kicked around in Congress for new nuclear power plants. Biodiesel, cellulosic ethanol, geothermal, etc. We should take advantage of any way to use less foreign oil.

Unfortunately, many Democrats in Congress aren't listening to our energy plan. Their leaders are calling it a gimmick. In fact, in the House there has been a real effort to block an up or down vote for any plan that includes off-shore drilling. I can't understand that. It isn't the only solution to our energy crisis, but it is one piece of a complicated puzzle. And it is something we can do right now.
