NY Conservative Party to Endorse Fred Thompson (Sorry Rudy!)
Holy Coast ^ | January 12, 2008 | Rick Moore

Sorry, Rudy:

In an interview to air this Sunday, state Conservative Party Chairman Mike Long tells WNBC's Gabe Pressman the party is likely to give an early nod to Fred Thompson if he manages to "break through" in South Carolina.

"As a Conservative, as the chairman of the New York state Conservative Party, my favorite candidate, naturally, is Fred Thompson," Long said. "He did very well this week in the debate. Certainly, I think in South Carolina. If he does well there, if he breaks through in South Carolina, he changes the face of this Republican race again.

He becomes an important player, then on to Florida and to the Southern states. And I think he has a shot at it. And then if he does that, I believe that us, meaning the New York state Conservative Party, will move forward and make an endorsement at an early stage to try to help him catapult the rest of the country."

The South Carolina debate had the highest viewership of any televised debate this election season and Fred did very, very well. Reports are that his events and rallies in South Carolina are packed and people can't get in. Could it be that Fred is finally hitting his stride...just in time for the Southern states?

I hope so.

No conservative will carry New York, but this possible New York conservative endorsement is still good news.

I believe SC voters are now beginning to rethink their vote for Fred

A win in Michigan for romney could really propel Fred in SC.

His numbers are going to start going up anyway, but Mitt, help us out in Michigan.

“As a Conservative, as the chairman of the New York state Conservative Party, my favorite candidate, naturally, is Fred Thompson...”

I love how he threw that “naturally” in there. :)

I just sent him a little more — every little bit counts!

Admin, do you think this could be put in News/Activism? I know the poster’s source is a blog, but it is more news relevent.

It’s impt news allright in NY.

But Fred HAS to win the Southern votes. We can forget the Blue states like NH and Iowa..they’re Dumocrat bastions.

SC should be a win for Fred.

Explain to me how a win for Mitt in Michigan is good for Fred?

Just curious....

Since you are curious, let me offer a response.

A Mitt Win In Michigan will deal a blow to McCain in SC. (Not Counting A Blow In Michigan) It will, in effect, keep the race wide open. A wide open race, gives Fred more time. A Mitt win in Michigan will not help him much in SC. But a McCain loss in Michigan WILL hurt him in SC.

I maybe as inaccurate as the RAT EXIT Polls in NH, but there it is.

My feeling is that if anyone goes out, most likely Fred will inherit the votes. I think if Mitt fails badly in Michigan, and drops out...Fred would have a substantial amount of votes going his way.

Then again, I’m not sure what would be best. I’m sure there are people looking through this now...just to see what would be the best thing to happen.

The endorsement would be nice.

But the reality is that the electoral votes from NY will sadly do to the Dems.

Another point about the conservative party in NY State is that it has more than often supported a liberal/dem in many local races in western NY. To my disgust!

NY Voters are stuck on stupid!!!

I wish that Fred Thompson would truly offer possible cabinet positions to both Tom Tancredo and Duncan Hunter among other conservative choices in a Thompson administration! I wish that Fred would seriously say that Janice Rogers Brown would be one of his choices for Supreme Court Justice replacements. These kind of promises would excite many conservatives throughout the U.S.!

You’re 100% correct!!

We either chip in and support a conservative to regain control of a national party, or go out in a whimper in the night.

I donated last Sunday and gave another $100 last night. We’ve all got to do something - donate, volunteer, phone, and vote.

“I’m not sure what would be best”

I’m not either. If McCain wins Michigan, maybe SC voters will realize in FULL Color that they are the last stand for a real conservative and give Fred that victory he’s got to have.

At this point though, it's the delegates that are important. Fred CAN win those, and this endorsement helps.

It’ll be a big enough suprise if he beats Ron Paul for 5th.

Wow, this could be pretty significant. It’s no surprise that the Conservative Party isn’t endorsing Rudy, but this could sway quite a few NY voters Fred’s way if he has any momentum going into Super Tuesday.
