I recall the early years of Earth Day celebrations.
Back then, it was mostly known as Ecology Day, at least in my area of Michigan. I had a cloth patch showing the American Flag using green. yellow and white. Sewed it onto my bookbag.

The masks were intended to allude to dirty air.
In large Asian cities lots of people wear masks because the air is often so bad, and did so long before Covid. When they come here, they wear them too.

Yep. Lots of Asians in my area - Covid gave them an excuse to wear those masks all the time now. I don’t get it. Beautiful fresh spring air and they’re wearing their stupid masks.
I’ve seen them for many years, especially in the warm months.
I know that my Korean friends have complained that after being here a few years, they became allergic to plants here. That might be why some wear them.
