One of the illustrations show the art gallery from the sanitation fair shows a painting of Niagara Falls by Church. It is considered a masterpiece of the Hudson River School. The painting is now at the National Gallery of Art in DC. Another masterpiece featured at the fair Harper’s mention is Washington Crossing the Delaware now at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC.

Frederick Edwin Church must have been prominent in his own time. In addition to having his work prominently placed in the Fair exhibit, he gets several mentions in George Templeton Strong's diary over the years.
