NASHVILLE, Tenn., Saturday, March 19.

The weather for the past four or five days has been decidedly cold and disagreeable. Business, however, and travel, all the time increase. Immediately in our midst, outside of the military, nothing is transpiring of moment. For the past few days there has been a considerable buzz around headquarters. and yesterday Lieut.-Gen. GRANT, Maj.-Gens. ROUSSEAU, DODGE, SHERMAN, and SHERRIDAN, and Brig.-Gens. GRANGER (BOB), GILLEM, BARRY, WEBSTER, RAWLINGS and MANSON -- quite a group of luminaries -- were assembled at one time. Gen. SHERMAN went to work immediately upon his arrival here, and will mount about seven thousand cavalry, which are camped in this vicinity, as soon as possible. At last the smallpox is decreasing. This dreadful disease has carried off a large number of soldiers, negroes, and citizens, during the past four months. The number at present sick is about thirteen hundred, half of whom are contrabands. A large field hospital for those afflicted with this malady has just been put in operation.

The first raid which has been made upon any of the roads in this department, since the whipping which Gen. CROFTS gave WHEELER in October last, took place on the Chattanooga Railroad, between Tullahoma and Estelle Springs, on Wednesday evening last, in that military section under the command of Gen. SLOCUM. I have seen three officers who have arrived in this city since the affair, who have acquainted me with the whole details. The first we heard about the affair, gossip have it that MORGAN had made a raid upon the road, destroyed the bridge at Duck River, three trains of cars, and knocked everything into a general smash. But it was not quite so bad as that. The facts are these:
