No matter how insignificant and unimportant one may feel, one can always tune in or read our modern “journalists” and become reassured that there are folks out there who are at the bottom of the intelligence and morality list...far, far below any level of depravity that we could reach.

Electric vehicles are hardly in their infancy. They were the beginnings of the quest to manufacture cars for everyone.

I’d like to see them dangling from a freeway overpass.

Plus my gas doesn’t randomly catch on fire

Oddly mine does, at about 1150 times a minute per cylinder as I cruise down the highway in my RAM Pickup. It does it inside the cylinders where it is supposed to catch fire and delivers me 395 horsepower when I need it.

I certainly take your point. EVs are in their infancy as a mass-produced alternative to mature transportation technologies. This is despite what people might dredge up from The History Channel (when it did history).

Yes, historically, electricity was right there with kerosene in powering 4 horse-power horseless carriages. It was rapidly shoved into irrelevance, however, as an inadequate and uncompetitive technology.

In a very real sense, the modern EV suffers from the progress that the internal combustion engine enabled, as well. No one will look twice, today, at a vehicle that does not sport power steering and brakes, motorized windows and air conditioning. All of these features rob an EV of its precious supply of electricity. If EVs did not need these conveniences, they would be more competitive, but the clock cannot turn backwards.

Trump is stalking me too! Every time I look at an EV he stabs me in the leg with a hat pin! I lose a train of thought like jobiden and I get the hatpin in the leg again. I mispronounce someone’s name and it’s the hatpin in the leg.

50 years ago, the push was to recycle. I just looked up "how much recycling is recycled" and the return from the Duck Duck Go search was dismal. According to sources like Scientific American and National Geographic and greenmatters.com, not a lot actually gets recycled.

And it's even worse, because the experts listed above refer to something called "downcycling", which is the name for recycled stuff that actually turns into new stuff. Nobody is offering an estimate of that, which is the whole point of recycling.

So now there is a new profit group that calls itself Green Energy, which I'm guessing will get the same kind of results; a replacement of activity for action, more government, more fees and spending, and no real results.

I suppose when the Next America gets back to a free market environment, that market will reject electric vehicles the same way the Original America rejected them, and for the same reasons. I most likely will not be around to see the results in person, but St. Peter might provide some access to current news so we can monitor how things are going.

If true, then thank you, Donald Trump. The more we learn about electric cars, the bigger the boondoggle they become.

The EV ,from manufacture to chargibility are certainly just being scaled up. In that sense we are at the very beginning.

The tendency to catch fire spontaneously had nothing to do with it. That’s just the new normal, see?

Sounds like one of those self loathsome types. Goes to show MIT (graduate) doesn’t teach honesty and integrity, let alone CALTECH where is a science writer.

Andrew Moseman of The Atlantic, is just another moron journalist who believes people are too stupid to make their own decisions when it comes to what vehicle they should drive, but instead rely on political figures to sway them.

Plus my gas doesn’t randomly catch on fire.

My understanding is that the recent accelerated push to stop mandating electric vehicles is that towing companies have refused to tow them due to them bursting into flames while on the tow truck and the tow yards refusing to store them due to them bursting into flames days later. Body shops refuse to repair them due to them bursting into flames in the lot or in the building.

The SAE J2990 publication "Hybrid and EV First and Second Responder Recommended Practice" reads like 'Mad Magazine':

SAE J2990 states that tow operators should arrange to tow the vehicle to an offsite location where it can be isolated. Once there, the vehicle should be inspected again. It should also be inspected for evidence of internal battery leaks, which could lead to short circuits or loss of high-voltage isolation, and the battery should be examined for loss of mechanical integrity. If airbags have deployed, further diagnostic steps should be conducted to assess the integrity of the high-voltage system, such as measuring the battery temperature.

Advise responders to "call the manufacturer for instructions or leave at least 50 feet of clearance around the vehicle".

Isolate a damaged electric vehicle inside a barrier of earth, steel, concrete, or masonry.

Tow a damaged electric vehicle on a flatbed to avoid generating voltage from the turning wheels. If the vehicle’s wheels must be turned—because it has run off the road, for example—its speed should be kept below 5 mph.

After being loaded onto a tow truck, the vehicle’s structural integrity should be checked. If the vehicle rolls while it is on the tow truck, the inspection steps listed above should be repeated.

What tow operator is going to take all that on just to expose themselves to liability when the lawyers say "you didn't follow recommended guidelines"?

I expect a lot of police department around the country are already involved in accident scenes where the towing companies won't touch an electric vehicle, leaving the police and fire department to have to deal with it.

The truth is that the suckers who buy them have terrible experiences and then the word gets around so that even the suckers start to see how bad they are.
