Thanks Beowulf9. Perhaps a web search is in order. I do recall that in the 19th c a group of VIPs met in Alaska territory, and some locals obtained red meat (which the VIPs demanded) from a frozen mammoth carcass that was sticking out of some icy hillside. Not sure whether that anecdote is real or memorex though.

Also, the ivory billiard balls of the 19th century were sometimes made of mammoth ivory from the great white north. Not sure about that story either. :^)

okay, it was only 1951, the meal was served in NY, obtained from the Aleutians, and apparently it was actually sea turtle (per the alleged DNA).

Interesting but I was talking about this:

In I Claudius (or maybe Claudius the God) he mentioned (and I don’t know if it’s historically accurate or not) that Caligula had a feast given him and it had a strange animal they found embedded in the ice on the mountaintop, a mammoth. It was roasted and served at the feast.

It is said that to save a species from extinction, the species must be domesticated. (For market).

“”The plan is to recreate the genome (the complete set of genes or genetic material of a cell or organism) of the woolly mammoth from preserved mammoth remains. This will be achieved through DNA editing, synthesis technologies, and AI, which will “help us with all the computational analysis of ancient genomes, assembly, comparative genomics, and recommendation systems on what types of tools to use.” These recreated genetic packages will then be implanted into the harvested egg of an Asian elephant””

What could POSSIBLY go wrong? /ssssssss

And, what if some of the science fiction theories come true? Imagine if genetic memory and a collective unconsciousness is real? If the mammoths remember all the humans who hunted them long ago, what do you think they will do today? Forgive and forget......what about those loooong memories?

We'll have to re-learn some long-lost skills, of course, but that shouldn't take too long.

Correct. Slow learners will be rapidly weeded out, and the smarter ones will learn from observing the mistakes of the former.

When I was little and less discriminate in surfing the net, I spent a lot of time on ebay. They had plenty of items made of mammoth ivory. It’s real, though of course not as plentiful as buyers think.

Man, how hungry do you have to be to poke a mammoth with a stick?
